Early morning hunt
« on: July 08, 2008, 12:42:49 AM »
Well, I finished my rounds at work. All my PM's are done for the week and I decided to do a little cruising around the place this morning.

I'm driving down the rear access road and what do I see about 35 yards ahead??? A BIG SKUNK!!! Needless to say, I shut the engine off and reached behind the seat of my service truck to pull out my trusty Crosman 2250XT. She was already locked, cocked & ready to rock!

The skunk was walking toward my general direction and got to about 25 yards out or so before it turned around. A quick honk of the horn and it spun around to face me again presenting me with a quartering view of it's front right side. Looking through the scope with the crosshair slightly above and to the left of the skunks eye, I took a deep deliberate breath, paused and squeezed sending a Cro Mag down Range. I was instantly rewarded with a VERY loud POP. The pellet connected with this  animals right eye as if it were laser guided.   The skunk did it's death dance while dumping EVERY OUNCE of it's nasty green stink juice. In 30 seconds it was all over.

I had to wait about a half hour for most of the stink to clear in order to take a pic. It was a nice sized female. Pellet entry was right through the eye and directly into the skull. No exit wound, but LOTS of blood.

Nice shot!  I would 've got outta there and come back in the morning :)

How fast does your 2250 shoot the Crow Mags?  It's a very tight fit in my 2240 and only shoot around 430fps MV but the gun is stock with a 10" barrel.  I have to push the CM's in with some force and I don't like that.  They seem to be too large and I was afraid they might damage the o-ring.  They do provide the highest FPE in my gun though.  More than 15.9gr JSB Exacts.

THanks guys! There's about 5 more BIG ones that I've been watching over the last two weeks or so. I've been getting to know their habbits & regular runs. So they'll be on the menu next! There's also at least 15-20 baby ones. Not much more than a couple months old. I think I'll let them grow up before taking them out!

Harry, my 2250 has a 24" barrel and the valve has been polished up a bit. I'm not sure what FPS it shoots Cro Mags at, but it spits 14.3gr Crosman Domes out at 640 or so FPS at around 70 degrees. Maybe a bit more with the 90+ degree temps we've been having lately.
