Woodshop Question: Sofa Feet?
« on: July 21, 2008, 06:21:20 AM »

I'm looking for some suggestions on adding a little height to a sofa. We gave this ikea sofa to our dog and she loves sleeping underneath it, but she's gotten so big now she has a real tough time getting in and out from underneath. I wanted to add a couple inches to the legs to make it easier for her. I'm pretty sure something can be custom made out of wood, but would anyone know of an alternate route to go? Perhaps somewhere that sells glue/bolt on feet in different sizes? Push comes to shove I'll probably just cut a few blocks off a 2x4 and somehow attach them, but it'll probably be an eyesore (more than the sofa already is). The legs of the sofa are about 1x4". Thanks gang!

Jay

I'd take a couple of pieces of 4x4 and run them from front to back, so the legs on each end are sitting on it.  Clean it up, and you could probably just about make it look like it was made that way.  Good luck.

Dave,

That's not such a bad idea.  I was so caught up with adding "feet" to those things and didn't even think about running longer lengths across.  Thanks for the tip!

Just build a couple 8 1/2 x 11 pellet traps and a couple solid boxes the same size. Put the solid boxes in the back and the traps in front.

Viola! Dog gets an extra foot of headroom and you get an indoor range! Woohoo!

Most any 4X4 you can get will be "Treated" lumber, most likely with a moisture content above 50% at best. Daved has a great Idea,, front to back on both sides is the answer!! A 4X4 will most certainly go Crazy with warping, twisting, checking issues when brought indoors. PM me the front to back deminsions,, the width of the legs,,I think I can match that stain color pretty close Jay. (Anything for a Puppy!!) Tim. P.S.,, Got your E-Mail,,Glad you like the 34 so much!! Shure is hard to put it down aint it!!LOL!! :p
