Those look really cool, Dan, but what earthly reason would you have for makeing them?  You could at least have made them to shoot rubber bands!  Or do they?  If so, I want one, always did like rubber band guns :-).  Almost as much fun as air guns.

Hehe, well they don't shoot anything, unless I guess you could wrap a rubber band on the end of the barrel, pull it back, release!!!  I made a few sets of grips and ran out of guns to put them on, around the same time I had been talking with Steve Corcoran about another project I wanted to make in wood(more on that in the future), anyways, long story short I had these grips, and I was getting ready to go meet Steve for the first time.  I had already told him about the grips I was making and offered him a set.  I decided to give him the grips, attached to a wooden gun(which is a bit like the original project I had been talking about).  So I gave him the gun, the grips, etc...and Joel Lively(airgunartisans.com), Steve and I had a long day of shooting, it was a blast and we took some pictures(I posted them here a few months ago).  One of those pictures showed the original wooden gun I had made, and of course there were a couple of people that wanted one also.  I picked a couple people that I thought deserved them, and decided to make theirs, but have no plans to make anymore in the future.  They are VERY time consuming, and I mean VERY time consuming.  I destroyed no less than 4 sets of grips, and 4 grip frames before I got 2 good sets of grips and 5 more grips frames(just in case).  I have one more gun, about 60-70% finished sitting on my bench which is also spoken for.  I think if I had to sell these things, to even make back $5 an hour it would cost someone a couple hundred bucks...and I don't feel the finished product warrants that kind of cash.  So I will end with 4 total wooden "2240Dubya" guns.  I may at some point make another, but I really want to make some other gun, the 2240 is starting to bore me to tears.  Someone asked about a 1377/1322 on the Crosman forum, I might make one of those if I ever get a 1377 or 1322 gun to model off from.  I think the barrel band would kick my butt, but it would be fun.  Would LOVE to do a full rifle, like an Air Arms or something like that, but I think the cost of wood for the stock would choke that idea..not to mention the cost of the gun I'd need to model it:)  Thinking a little about doing a QB also, I love mine, but doubt the stock will look as nice as the one Steve made me....  Got any ideas of something that would be cheap to woodenize?

Joel has one and even has an extra factory stock since his now wears a Paul bishop custom stock. It might just be a real sweet looker. You could even use different kinds of wood for different parts to add color and to customize the "gun" Maybe even make the cocking lever "work" a;through itbwould'nt cock anything and even move a "breechblock"  Its a thought and I know for one i would live to see it when you are finished. If you like you could even auction or raffle it off when completed. If that woeks you could make one (a different rifle each time) every 6 months or year and raffle that one off as well. Anyway its an idea. I know I love my dubya 2240!

Hehe,

THAT would be a very ambitious project.  I'm kinda staying away from long guns because of the size/shape of wood involved.  Finding 1" thick wood is easy, finding 2 1/2" thick wood is alot harder and alot more expensive.  If you ever get a chance to see someone cut a stock, take a look at the stock blank size before they start, it's a pretty substantial piece of wood.  The 2240 Dubya's are easy, I can go to Ace, or Home Depot and find 99% of what I need to make one of those for a few bucks plus the brass hardware.  In time and money it would end up costing me the same price as buying a TX200 to make one.  But I really am serious about making a 1322 or 1377, I think that would be different enough that I would have a little fun with it and still not spend the dinner money on wood.  Now I just have to get my hands on a bone stock 13XX or two, so I can model one while I make grips and shoot the other:)  I hear they're going for $39 or so at Big5 right now....huhm, bills to pay, maybe in a month or three...hehe.  I'll think a little more on this, thanx for the input James!

Dan

When I used to make custom slope glider fuselage plugs. I would always use two pieces of wood. Dowel them together in order split them apart to make the fiberglass molds.

I would think one could approach this in the same manner but make them permanent. Just find the wood you want, then have the two pieces shaped on a wood shaper on one side so they fit perfect, then glue and dowel use clamps to secure and let them dry. WaLa, you have a nice thick piece of wood to work with...:) This is only my view and I am sure the guys who make them probably use one solid piece of wood but that is how I would approach it on my first one...:)

Yep, I've thought of that before.  I may even do it for something else, but I feel like if it's a stock it should be solid.  There's other reasons behind not making a long gun too, like the time involved in hand shaping a stock.  Never know, I may do it at some point.
