what do you guys think of this gun. It'll be my first and for 170 it looks like a good value.

I had one. Got it home tore it down. Did a lube tune and a GRT trigger even after the work I was not happy. Way too much plastic and I thought it was too light for accurate shooting. If you want to stay with Gamo in about the same price range maybe take a look at the Hunter Sport.

Walt, here in Wisconsin we have Mills Fleet and Farm stores.  They currently have the Gamo Nitro with a 3-9x40 scope on sale for $129.99  Just thought I'd throw that out for comparison perposes.

whatever you do, do not get one with a scope included in the price.  You will want a better scope within days of owning it.  To  be quite honest, i shouldve started out with a cheapo chinese gun to learn the art of airgunning, it would have saved me mucho dinero. But then again, i have a quest, which looks cool but shoots only so-so.  Good luck and happy shootin!
