The sky is the limit as long as you know what you can hunt.  This particular release of liability I drafted was for a farmer i know with a specific problem with mice, crows, and sparrows.  I was afaid his boss would get nervous if he thought i was trying to kill everything that moved, and deny me permission to hunt on his properties.  Once I develop a relationship with them, you bet I'll draft another one  including rabbit, and whatever else i can.
I scouted out a grape field, a cherry orchard I can hunt...I'm so excited!!!!

sorry....getting carried away

have fun!!
Go git \'em!

I notice there are no starlings on that plate.

I thought pigeons were dangerous disease carriers.  No?

Nice shooting for sure!  I hope to join you guys at some point.  I might need some help zeroing some scopes on my rifles.

Thanks again Thomas & Neil

Neil, as for the pigeons being unsafe to eat,,,,,, I've been eating them for years and never had a problem,,,, just delicious meals  :)  .  I have over the years killed a few pigeons that didn't appear healthy and those birds I of course simply tossed.

AS for the starlings,,, I kept those starlings just for pics but I have eaten them in the past and believe it or not they are very tasty......

Well it gives meaning to 4 and 20 Starlings baked in a pie!  24 is about a whole flock of em!  Native Black Birds are on the don't shoot list in NYS. but Starlings are on the 'anytime' list.

So how do you prepare pigeon and starling?  Do you use tenderizer?  A Coca Cola marinade?  A hammer?

Spending a lot of time in NYC and seeing pigeons drinking gutter water, still has my nose wrinkled about eating em.  I suppose Long Island 'Rock Dove' would be a cleaner animal generally.

Hi Neil,

My favorite way to prepare pigeon (and starling) is to coat them with a good layer of cajun type seasoning and fry them in oil, with some bacon fat mixed in of course, until the outside coating just starts to get crispy.

I've also bar-b-q'd them, baked them with bacon strips wrapped around them and also simmered the whole cleaned birds in tomato sauce until the meat just about fell off the bone.   Another favorite is to put em on the top grill of the bar-b-q on low heat, place a good supply of smoking chips in my metal chip container, placed the container on the coals, close the lid and slowly smoke the birds until they're done....     Man,,,,, I'm getting hungry.

Off topic a little, but pretty soon I'm going to need to put a few hundred rounds through my new this summer guns and make sure I'm doing things right.

Perhaps some weekend in September I could coral you and Joe Cuz to help me out on Long Island!

I'm still sketchy about eating 'Rock Doves' but I'm adventurous!

Could you help me zero a couple guns with new scopes someday?
