Praise report & Prayer for strength request.
« on: August 29, 2008, 02:40:41 AM »
Okay, here it goes… a little background…

When I bought my property 6+ years ago I had no Idea I was going to be running a business out of it. We had been renting for most of our marriage and were overly excited with our first home purchase and told the owners not to worry about running a new power line to the old shop after it was blown down in an earlier storm… I said no problem… it would most likely be used for storage since most of the kids were growing up and moving out… and we were down sizing by a thousand sq feet of house but gaining more property.

Well any way I got the new line out to the old shop put in to only find out that the existing breaker box was only single phase and would not run some of my equipment… :( As you can guess… the new over head power line was not cheap to have installed…

Well the lord provided a "new" 150 amp “Square D” power center for only a single buck! Yes $1.00… They originally sold this model for $250.00 with the 150 amp main breaker. 84 Lumber had not sold one of these models for over two years and they were just gathering dust. They just did inventory and were closing them out…:) Amen and praise God…

I am installing it this morning… and then we are spending this weekend moving equipment in and setting up the permanent shop.

So my request is… Please pray for the strength needed in the move and no one gets hurt moving the heavy equipment from the well house out to the shop.

Thank you & God Bless,

Well the box is in and working. But it is just too hot to do much more out there today. I will need to put in an A/C unit or swamp cooler before next summer... It's 103 in the shade... even up here in Auburn. The 3 phase is for the air compressor and when I get my mill. I have been running the compressor from the well house... It was the only plug I had outside for it...

We got some of the smaller stuff in and set up. Work bench, Roll away tool box, Mini lathe & Stand, drill press, shop press, table saw, wood shaper, and grinder/buffer. I still have to decide where to mount the new rod & flat stock bender. That has to be bolted to the floor and braced to the wall. I can tell that I am going to run out of room once I get the mill... and I got to have room for the carving duplicator I am building... I think I will have that and the table saw on wheels soon...

I still need to move the band saw, compressor, chop saw & stand, the other roll away box and bench down there... I live on a rock/hill and the well house is about 50 yards uphill from the shop.

I had my temporary shop set up on the back covered patio for the summer... it sure was nice to work out there in the shade with the breezes blowing through... The girls are back home for this semester and were getting tired of being woken up by me cutting metal at 7:00 in the morning. That chop saw makes a great alarm clock but makes for some grumpy girls...

It's not much to look at and Jim might say it's a "west coast barn"... he he... I will wait till I paint to send photos... The work I do is much more pleasing to look at than the shop any way...

I have an order of aluminum, steel & delrin coming in on Tuesday or Wednesday... then full on production work for the next two weeks. You all will see some photos of the fruits of that labor soon... Very soon.

If all goes well and we can afford it... I will expand the shop in the next year or two. This one has a wood floor so I can't safely weld in there. The expansion will be on a slab just for the purpose of welding. Maybe even a pole barn style on a slab.

Thanks for your prayers and support... I am sure I will be working all weekend... Well Sunday after church we will strike up the BBQ in the evening and relax...

All together now! ---- GTA, A great place to be!

Okay… I stand corrected… my electrician buddy who has been helping me said that the old box was only 110v and the wiring he put in is for 220v for the compressor… not 3 phase… but the box will do 3 phase if I need it in the future…??? I still don’t understand it… I just flip the switch and use the darn things… I call Sam anytime I need electrical stuff done…

Now I know why I don’t do electrical wiring for a living… I think I will stick to what I know how to do…

The move is not going as smooth as hoped…

My disabled wife Kristen took a bad fall yesterday off the back porch. She hurt her back & neck and had to be rushed to the closest hospital by ambulance. She is badly bruised but not broken. Thank God.

We spent most of the day at the ER. She is back home now but still in a tremendous amounts of pain. Just when we were making some progress in physical therapy... now we are back to square one and she is back to relying on the power scooter and wheel chair for awhile. We are moving in a friend to help out taking care of her while I work.

The equipment is all in the shop now except the big compressor. That will have to wait and I can use my small one for now. I just need to clean up and get some things orginized and then back to work...

Please keep Kristen in your prayers.

Thank you & God Bless

Joe Mc

Most of the shop is set up & organized except the wood working side. I even got some lathe time in yesterday. I got a dozen adapters for the 22xx wire stocks done and a couple of wire stocks shaped with the new Rod Bender. I set up some tunes to boot scoot with my Zune MP3 player and my son's old stereo... The wireless system just barely reaches and with my old laptop I can check emails down there. I will be installing a hard network line and a build a "Clean Box" before I bring one of the other computers down there. Laptops are great for portability but I need a bigger screen for photos, Illustrator, ect...

Kristen is doing a little better and it is her birthday today. Unfortunately we will be spending most of the day at Dr.'s appointments but at least I will be taking her out to breakfast & lunch down in the valley. Then when we get home... a BBQ dinner... I all ready picked her up a Boston Cream Pie for a birthday cake & her favorite Chocolate Moose Tracks Ice Cream... What's a birthday with out lots of chocolate???  :)

Well I am going to head down to the shop and see what else I can quietly get done before I have to wake the rooster up.

Thank you for all of your prayers.

God Bless,
Joe Mc
