My Timid Sister.....
« on: September 02, 2008, 04:37:56 PM »

......"did in" these two rodents. It's sorta hunting....actually trapping. The chipmunks and squirrels have been causing havoc in her veggie garden. No airguns since all the home owners are not fenced in....they only have posts to indicate the property line. She set up a pailof water (3 or 4" from the brim)and a layer of foam pellets (The type used for insulation for shipping)...completely hiding the water underneath....floating on top, and placed a small cap full of peanut butter in the center. She then leaned a piece of wood on the edge of the pail acting as a bridge for those rodents.... First few days she didn't get anything because I assume the rodents were suspicious. On the fourth day, that's when the trap worked. Btw...the trap wasour MOM's idea!!!!! Way to go sis and mom. Btw, sis said the squirrel was about 1 1/2lb (Maybe it's lungs were full of water)...but she was squeamish to prepare and eat it.You'll notice a pair of pincers in the "chipmunk" photo that my sis used to pick up the rodent. heh heh

Wow, nice going!  So how big and deep was this pale of water?  The squirrel couldn't jump out of it or grab the rim and climb out of it?  They can propel themselves several yards especially when they are spooked.  I can see the chipmonk having trouble but squirrels are pretty fast reacting to trouble..  Good job!

Somone from another forum e-mailed me about my g-hog hunts, and said his mother used to trap G-hogs when he was a kid, and then lower them into the pond until she could see no more air bubbles!  I 'm glad we use airguns.  It's a lot more fun for us and very quick for the animals.

I hope they don't complain about your shooting airguns..... you know, this is a good time for you to ask for more airguns, seeing that your way is a little more "instant kill"... get each of them one, or tell them which ones to get... so you can use it for them when they aren't. hehehe.

Got a 3rd one.....

Hi all, my sis got another one. At this rate she's going to overtake me in the "Pest Control" department by the end of the year. So far I think I've only shot 6 grackles, 1 crow and 2 pigeons.

Only1harry, I think my sis used a 7 to 10" pail.....and the water was 3 or 4" from the rim. So when the rodents jumped in onto the floating pellets they sunk right away. And then they don't have any leverage (solid ground or limb) to push off. Poor bastards!!!!

Ten4copy, if they knew how many air rifles I've got.....they would slap the topside of my head!!!! heh heh And yes...they don't want me to shoot my air rifles in my backyard.....they say they don't want the neigbours to complain and maybe call the police.

Shadow, I think the water death trap wouldn't work up here in winter....the water would become a skating rink in a few hours.

Gene, yep definitely more than one way to nail those rodents....I think this is the "Silent Killer" technique. I don't know if those victimscalled for help in their pitiful squeeks or not. If I heard it/them....I would be appalled and go and do the "right" thing..i.e.....a pellet in da head. But that's wishful thinking....since sis is over 1000 miles away!!!

Note how my sis made a scale to measure the size of the rodent(s). heh heh
