You mean the elder "Read my lips, no new taxes" Bush 41? Beg to differ. It wasn't Perot's graphs that cost him the election. Instead, it was, until the Clinton era, what was then largest tax increase in American history that Bush 41 signed instead of vetoing. (Remember, the one that was supposed save Social Security, and the huge Medicare and Capital Gains tax hikes?) Had Bush 41 vetoed the tax bill, Congress would have overridden the veto, yes, but at least he would have kept his word. But noooooooooooo! He didn't want to look bad by having a veto overturned, so he broke his word to those who elected him. Got what he deserved for doing it, too, or I should say, didn't get what he didn't deserve -- re-election. And the resulting economy was what the 1994 Republican "Contract with America" rolled in on in the middle of Clinton's two terms (remember?)
Ladies and gentlemen, it is your Congress that sets the agenda of taxes, controls governmental spending and economic policy. And right now, that's the Democrats, who, for reasons that are transparent, are happy if the economy is bad. And even if it isn't, they will say it's the "worst economy in the last 50 years" irrespective of the truth, and the Congress who has blocked any sort of sane energy policy, and the Congress who voted to approve the war in Iraq, etc.. etc. And if Bush 43 is bad, then the current Congress absolutely s - - ks.
But hell, it must be Bush's fault somehow. That is all I ever hear. That's the only mantra the left seem to know. I will take either of the Bush's over Jimmy Carter any time. I am of an age where I actually remember the worst economy of the last 50 years and buying my first home on a one-year balloon note at 18.5%, double digit inflation, American hostages, an impotent military led by a Commander in Chief who was a buffoon, and "the misery index". But let's not talk about that. Elect some more libs, raise taxes on the "rich" and watch what happens to the economy over the next 4 years. I am sure that will be Bush 43's fault as well.
Good luck all you young folks out there in the job market. You will need it. And just wait and see how much of your paycheck you get to keep when the taxes on the "rich" get raised again. My advice: look for a Government job. There is never a recession or downsizing of any of those.
