Sling for Whisper
« on: July 17, 2009, 02:17:37 PM »
Hi guys!  I'm new to this forum, but not to airguns.  I just got back in by getting a Gamo Whisper and just put the GRT III trigger in-works as advertised.  The little rifle allows me to sit in on the back deck and get in my 100 shots a day.  Its OK right now, but I really need a sling for hunting season.  It is a royal PITA to cross a fence without one.  My brother gave me one of those Chinese side-cockers that looks like my SKS and it has one.  Why not the Gamo?

Big Jim,
Welcome.

I used the left front stock screw hole on my Whisper for a sling mount.

The Uncle Mike's swivel set (Walmart, Natchez, etc.) that has both a machine screw and wood screw - the machine screw is the same thread as the stock screw. And it's long enough to grab plenty of thread in the reciever and still stick out enough from the stock screw hole recess  to mount the sling.

I cut a piece of 3/16 tubing  about 1/4 long. Slipped that over the Uncle Mikes machine screw and threaded on the knurled nut that comes with it up tight against the tubing. That way the tubing and the nut lock up and make the screw stand out far enough to get the front swivel loop on, but can still thighten the nut  down into hole recess of the stock to realy hold the stock tightly to the reciever.

Tighten the screw into the reciever with a skinny screw driver in the swivel hole of the screw head.

For the other end of the sling - I just drilled a pilot hole on the underside of the stock - the thickened part- just forward of the end of where the  recoil pad screw goes into it. Then threaded the wood screw into the plastic just like you would with a wooden stock.

Thanks ariscool.  I guess great minds think alike.  I thought of that while bush hogging today.  I may already have just the thing in my junk box.  Neat trick with the tubing!

I'll be in and out frequently.  My cousin told me about this forum and I love it.  There seems to be minimal trolls and those are not tolerated
