Found Crosman destroyers for $2.97/300 at Walmart
« on: April 03, 2010, 03:23:06 AM »
Last night, while checking to see if they had some .22LR ammo in for my Ruger 10/22 I also checked the pellet selection. They had Crosman premiers in the tin for $6.97/500 and Crosman Destroyers for $2.97/300. Not the BEST price on the premiers but pretty darn good on the destroyers, I bought 4 tins! :-)

Sir,

I read your post and remembered a tin of Destroyers I had.  On a whim went down and did some 10 yd shots with them.  WOW!  I put them away thinking they were horrible pellets for accuracy.  Well shot them from my best AR2079, HW30s, Daisy 130a (which is as accurate as the HW30) and from my Avanti 888.  Guess what?  Better groups than Hobby, Basic, Gamo Match, Meisterkuglen rifles and H&N Match!  I stopped by Wally World after work and picked up 8 tins!

Thanks for bringing this up!

I will try a tin of these. The semi-wadcutter shape should punch clean holes for target plinking. I tried the 500 count tin of hollow points (.177) and was surprised that some of my guns shot them pretty well. Good, cheap ammo is hard to find around here.

WARNING: NOT SAME PELLETS!
« Reply #5 on: April 07, 2010, 11:54:40 AM »
Guys,

I opened a tin of the new Destroyers I got at Wallyworld.  Didn't group well.  Looked at tin. Package says "New" and they are now called Destroyer EX.  They are different pellets!  Old tin was 250 count, new tin is 300 count.

I'll post some pics tonight but they are not the same pellets and at least for me in a side by side shoot they don't group nearly as well as the old ones.  I was getting phenominal groups in several rifles with the old ones.  I just shot some new ones with my HW30s.  New ones stink.

I tried the new destroyers in a B26 some were tight some loose.1 even fell right through the barrel to the ground.if Iwas not paying atention could of had a dry fire after that I put the lid back on the tin.needless to say the group stunk.I'll use the rest in my b3 that eats anything.

UPDATE ON DESTROYERS: DO NOT BUY THESE!
« Reply #7 on: April 07, 2010, 02:13:42 PM »
Okay so here's the skinny.

New: as Scruff_Dog said are inconsistent fitting, Old: are consistenly firm fitting.

New: 7.4 gr, Old: 8.0 gr

New: Points are not uniform and more rounded, Old: Points are very uniform and pointed.

New:  Crown has a ridge/ring around it at the top, Old:  Crown is uniform

New:  Skirt has a seam in it and a peculiar bulge, Old:  skirt is uniform and seamless.  Consistent cone shape.

My recommendation is to buy RWS Basics if you are looking for economical shooters.  They have performed better for me than Hobby or Meisterkuglen Rifles.  Daisy Precision Max are anything but for me.  I don't get good groups with Daisy Precision Max in any rifle I have.

The best wadcutters for me though are H&N Match.  Always consistently perfect shooters.  While POI may change between rifles the results do not...they are one holer pellets.  Of course they cost a bit more but here's what I think...for the price of what I USED to pay for 50 9mm bullets I can buy a 500 tin of H&N.  1/10th the cost per shot!  For what I pay now for a box of cheapy Blazer .357 I can buy TWO tins of H&N Match.  So expensive is all relative and pellets are way cheaper to shoot!

So this just proves to me again that it is worth it to buy expensive good pellets!

Guess, I should shoot cheaper pellets for a while and use the money I save for a new camera!

Comparing Groups Destroyer vs Destroyer EX
« Reply #11 on: April 08, 2010, 04:57:11 PM »
Here's a couple shot groups with Destroyers.  The new ones are spraying all over.  The new ones seem to be an alloy kind of like CPL/CPH.  I noticed my fingers are getting really dirty after shooting them.  This doesn't happen with the original Destroyers.  I'm guessing that based on the dull color of the old ones that they are made from lead.  The new ones are shiny and my guess is an Antimony alloy

I'm going to return the 7 unopened tins. Because these are horrible.

My Benji 397 seems to like these just fine. In fact I used them for one of the on-line matches this week.
