Still need butt pad and some optics and my 34 will be perfect. Only took 5 inches off the barrel and after filing and sanding the the end it is a hair under 14.5 inches long. I used a brass wood screw with some lapping compound to recrown the barrel and she shoots the same groups at short range as before the chop. I do not notice a difference in cocking the rifle with a shorter barrel but there is always the option to add a muzzle brake to help.

Hey junglelarry, a big welcome to the GTA forum and family. You did a great job on chopping the 34`s barrel......I don`t have a RWS 34....but I always thought it`s barrel was way too long.

Thanks for the welcome. I had the opportunity to pick up the 34 at a bargain price so I jumped on it. I knew full well that the length was too long for my taste but I couldn't pass on the rifle. I had originally planned on getting the 34 pro compact which has a shorter barrel but the price was more than I had wanted to initially spend even though I know I would have been just as satisfied with the purchase. The cheap bastard in me won the contest and I picked up the model 34 instead. Truth be told I was more hesitant to paint the gun than to chop the barrel. I am glad I did both because it suits me better. Unfortunately I think is just going to be my new addiction air rifles not chopping barrels that is.

We think alike!!!! I like the Pro Compact`s length better too.....either the Panther 34 Pro Compact or the regular RWS 34 Pro Compact.

A great big welcome Jason. Great project you have going there. I did the same thing except only took off 3" with a new custom cherry wood stock from Tim Merideth. I love the way it balances now. Thanks for sharing. Here is pic of mine.. All finished.

Ugh, I want that stock. Haha it looks great but I don't think I would be brave enough to handle it for fear I would ruin it.

Well I shoot off the bench so I do not have to worry about carrying it around in the brush. I have synthetic shooters for that... I also have one in walnut..

Good job on the chop. I still dont think I would attempt that one.
I was wondering where you are going to get you muzzle break from? I just got a 350 mag and that giant hooded sight is going to go.
