if its anything like my dads, its actually a daisy.........and the trigger is garbage.

if you can get used to the trigger its a nice looking rifle, and its fairly accurate.

I have a Win 1000X that I found (cheap) at a swap meet.  It was well used and it needs some cosmetic work
but it's a very strong shooter and I like the trigger (maybe it was worked on or just broken in?)

These guns are made in Turkey (by Hatsan I guess).  Mine appears well made.

There is a forum just for the Winchester rifles here:

I have Winchester 1000 and it's one of the hardest hitting .177 rifles I have. The trigger is a bear, but then I haven't done anything to it either. I originally bought the Daisy powerline synthetic stock .177 and was so impressed with the power I immediately bought the Winchester wood stock version,,, plus I really just liked the aesthetics of the wood :)

I haven't tuned mine or really done anything to em, and I'll admit they are "rough',,,, but I really like em and the power they have is incredible..... so is their accuracy :)

Very accurate, very crude...

...and very powerful. My Daisy 1000X averages over 1020fps with 7.9gr Premiers.

But it's tough cocking, harsh shooting, and most have horrendous triggers (it's the luck of the draw on that). Worse, service parts are simply not available.

A far better deal, in my opinion, is this:

http://natchezss.com/category.cfm?contentID=productDetail&brand=GN&category=176&subCategory=176&catLevel=1&prodID=GN611005654

The old 440 has a nice wood stock, it uses the common Gamo powerplant parts that are still used in many of their breakbarrels, and it's overall a better made gun (even if it doesn't shoot as hard). Very little plastic on this one, BTW...

Another good deal for the money is the refurbished RWS48 directly from Umarex for $120 shipped, or even the refurbished Force 1000 or Hammerli Titan for $90 shipped.

I have to agree with Vince,,,, that $99 deal on the GAMO 440 is a great buy...

I've been watching for reviews on the Walther (Hatsan) .25 that is supposed to be coming out  soon. Wonder if that will be a possible source of parts for some of the  other Hatsans? Harsh or not, that is a good price for a .25 if it lives up to the specifications they list for it.

my dads Winchester is the daisy 800x series something-or-another, not the 1000 ones you are probably talking about.

but that trigger really is bad, I am glad to see I wasn't imagining it.

does have a pretty good kick though. No accuracy problems so far either.

it does seem like it might be running out of steam though, I need to read up more on rebuilding this thing for him.

My bud has one and it seems to be a fairly accurate rifle, but as I have read in here, I can confirm that it has a horrible trigger. I don't know if CDT makes a GRT trigger for it, but if he does I guess it would be fair for the price.

Sorry but the GRT-III will not work in it. I have a Brazilian Winnie 800 that has beautiful Walnut wood and a nice gun. I did lube tune it but didn't do much with the trigger. You need to be pretty careful with the trigger because if the geometry of it is changed just a little, the gun is either dangerous or junk. :o  You won't find parts for it.  :o
