Big Ed B51...the saga continues........
« on: April 20, 2008, 08:40:23 AM »
Today I finally got a chance to run the Big Ed B51 across the chrony to dial in my fill pressures.  Ed had told me to start out around 2100 psi and work on it from there, so I started at about 2300psi to see what kind of quiet low velocity shots I could get from the new machine.  At 2300 psi the gun was shooting Crosman 10.5 grain Heavies just under 400fps, little slower than I wanted for the yard, but so quiet.  With every shot fps picked up by 2-6 fps on average, and it finally got to the point after I had reset the chrony 2 times (32 shot memory) that I got kinda bored...so from a 2300 psi I got about 70 shots at utra low power.  I stopped when I got to the840's, hooked up my pump and pumped a couple strokes till the fill valve opened....the gun was at 1700psi, this is where I started my chrony string:

this graph is actually plotted backwards, shot 34 is actually shot 1 and visa versa.

End pressure 1200psi, and about 35-40 quick pumps to get it back up to 1700 or so...about a pump per shot...nice!    What amazed me is before this string when I was just trying to shoot some air out so I could start running strings I was using cheapo Crosman wadcutters(7.5 grain?) these lighter pellets were shooting well into the mid-high 900fps range, but still not much louder than your average pumper bbgun on say 4-5 pumps.  This gun continues to impress me, almost as much as my earlier B50 DE-pressed me.  Ed recrowned the factory barrel and it shoots some real one holers at the range I've been able to shoot it at, just as accurate as anything else I've owned...'cept for maybe the Tau.  The trigger still bugs me a bit, but I'll cure that when I get some "free time" at work, ...haha, yea good luck with that:)

I know, pictures, pictures pictures....mine looks just like the one on the Bestairgun website, only no pretty lady...I'd hold it, but I doubt anyone would appreciate THAT picture:)

Except we are using a 2000psi (and I think it is really 1900psi) fill for around 895fps with 10.5g and we dont hear it untill it hits the target but thats okay. Not that you would ever want to but for fun the other day I swapped the 25" .22 barrel on and it shot 866fps with 14.3 (no other changes made) and we have a short P-70 barrel for it I will pop on sometime just to see if it will beat out the Lothar.
And while I am certain you enjoy the stock stock I personally dont think I can go back, a few pics attached ( ? I still have trouble with that here).
Maybe a left hand Walnut stock and our Purple Heart stock and the modded stock stock and a spare top end. These pesky Bam's "can" pretty much do it all.

OK, where can I get a left handed walnut, beech, cherry, or maple stock for my B50? I personally like beech a lot. Especially the beech stock on my Weihrauch, and on my Husqvarna M38 Swedish Mauser. Guess I'm "going against the grain" with my preferences.  I like the camo miniskirts and braless babes on the bestairgun website, but don't want to see Dano dressed that way, either. ;')
