QB-78/AR2078A Pressure
« on: September 13, 2006, 10:13:13 AM »
Cooler weather is coming on. CO2 won't work well below about 65F.

If we don't have a basement or heated garage what do we do?

I was wondering what the safe pressure would be if a person wanted to pump it up with an PCP pump.
I know it would take at least 1000lbs, CO2 gets that high. I don't want to strech the guns limits.

I would like to be able to shoot a QB-7X outside when the temp is between 30 and 65.  Any Ideas?

If you are just going to fill the gas tube it won't work worth a damn, only about 5 shots and each one gets weaker. You will need a regulated bottle, gonna cost some bucks. I have modified rifles for cold weather use, if you aren't afraid of tearing it down and working on it it's possible to still shoot just above 600 FPS with a .22 at 35 degrees with CO2. When it gets cold out I just get  one of the springers out and use that.

Not only a good bit slower in cold weather, they tend to be gas hogs...using more CO2 to get that lower vel.  Do believe a second (cold weather)valve could be made to shoot pretty fast in lower temps (to a point...gets really cold, you gotta wonder what sane person would be out there at all) but that it would suck down CO2 like crazy.

Going to be a whole lot easier to just get a springer or pneumatic ....or shoot from someplace warm.

Let me think about that for a second...have seen and used the rifle "gloves" that are used for cammo but allow you to shoot with them on ....a portable heating unit to keep the temp inside to a reasonable 80 degrees?  Keeps the gun and your hands warm... like it...might just have to take a good look (and test to be sure they don't get too hot) at some of those batttery powered electric socks.

On the rifles I have done for cold shooting the easiest way to keep the speed up is to jack the hammer spring (not good for valve stem) and putting a lighter spring in the valve. They do suck gas but shoot pretty evenly as they don't chill down much.

I'm sure that someone could come up with an electric blanket for CO2 guns. How about a heat mat for reptiles?

I miss shooting my Co2's when it gets cold. They are very good shooters in warm weather conditions. I took the simple way out..:) Bought a couple PCP's and a whole lot of springers.. he he he..

Some people are avid hunters and shooters, especially when  they have shot firearms for years. Firearms are not effected by much..

I would tend to wear thermal gloves because of arthritis..:) and just use a springer or PCP in the cold months.

But if there is a will there is a way to keep those C02 rifles working throughout the winter months. And the idea of a heated rifle sock sounds logical. As long as it is not to bulky.

Good Luck Wiener...:)

LOL Ed... It is the big Mamba of PCP's...:) Samatra 2500. Uses 30gr pellet on high power setting and gets in the mid 60fpe and on the low and medium power settiings it uses the 21gr Kodiac extra heavies.  It is allot of PCP...:) Bought it a few months back. I think there is a picture of it in my Albums directory. Take a look.. It weighs in at around 11 pounds with scope..

Because I was impressed by the FPE..:) and failed to look at the weight.. lol.. It sounds like a cannon when shooting on high power with those big pellets. Your neighbors would tar and feather you if you fired that off in your back yard. lol
