hello to all you springer wizards,

i, not having enough money to get a turbo tune, purchased a JM tune kit for my gamo. i need any and all technical and practical advice that you feel is necessary to make this a successful venture. no one has ever accused me of being a genius so any good advice is greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Well I just finished my first round of home tunes and will tell you first thing I learned is be   Just kidding its not to hard.  Start by getting a big open area so you can lay stuff out as you pull them apart,*use a spring compressor*, make sure you deburr all the slots cut into the spring area or it will slice your new seal when you try and put it back in, wear protective glasses and latex gloves,  polish both ends of spring, clean throughly with goo gone then lubricate as per instructions in the library then reassemble.  This is a bare bones tune and seems to have worked fine in mine.  What gun are you tuning?  If it is a Shadow 1000 to get the new seal on, warm it in some hot water until it is kinda soft them slip it over a 7/16 socket then while it is hot slip it on the piston,(thanks guys for this tip!).  This is just how I did it and I am no expert I'm sure some of these other guys will give you some advice.

You didn't say what gun you were going to tune.  There can be quirks for some guns.  Most springers require a spring compressor, you can search this site and find many examples of a home-made compressor.  I made mine out of a $6 C-clamp I purchased at Harbor Freight.  Next a set of needle files, some wet/dry sand paper and a brake cylinder hone.  Your job is to disassemble the rifle checking and polishing out any burrs.  I have learned that if you check and clear burs before removing the pistion/seal you may avoid futher damaging the seal due to the presence of a burr.  Then you clean out the old lubes, debur and polish the cylinder and reassemble with new lubes after clearing all burrs.  Most rifles also benefit from having the trigger group disassembled, honed and reassembled with moly lube.

A 220 should turn out great!  Also,  one nice thing about at 220 is that you can re-crown the barrel if necessary.  Can't do that easily with the Gamos with a plastic shroud.  Inspect the crown for nicks or anything uneven.  An arigun needs an even smooth crown or accuracy will suffer.  There are numerous posts here you can search on on how to recut the crown if necessary.

hey fisherdude,

i finished my tune. i pulled her apart deburred and polished all of the surfaces, lubed her just like the instructions said, and reassembled her. now for the shooting part of our program........ WWOOOOOoooo WOOO! holy smokes shoots like a different rifle. no more twang only a nice solid thump, and then the sound of a direct hit. it shoots so smooth now i have to readjust my technique. in about 5 minutes i was shooting great groups. nothing like a tune and the infamous gold trigger(grt III). i am going to get another rifle in .22 and do the same thing. oh i forgot centerpoint 4-16x40 iluminated rect. thanks for all of your advice chief it is and was greatly appreciated.

peace,
rashid(lilfeeby)
