Hey Brian, first off let me welcome you to GTA Forums. A great place to be and we're glad you joined us. LOL...with the recent subject being discussed, I would respectfully ask if you would please take your caps lock off when posting.

Okay, that out of the way, lets talk about your BC. You're right in several points. Safety is a big concern when disassembling a springer. Watch out for that flying object. Use a spring compressor ANY time you disassemble or reassemble. You're partially correct on not worrying about a seal and spring if swapping in a gas ram. Personally, I'd buy a replacement seal just in case something happens during the mod. You won't need the spring so a spare isn't necessary to buy.

Tell ya the truth, 1 to 1-1/2" group @ 45 yards ain't no slouch. But, I've had much better results with CPHP in my guns as far as power out and accuracy. And as far as the scope, these high powered springers are hard on any scope. Doing a proper tune will calm them down and make them fire better and smoother. A gas ram would certainly calm things down. You also have to make sure you use the proper scope mounting system and locktite it in place. I've heard a lot of chatter about the factory Gamo scopes being junk so a replacement MIGHT be justified. Look for a Leapers, Centerpoint, BSA, Hawke or other AG rated scope.

Good luck with your new toy and the addicting sport of AGs. And again, welcome.

Happy Shooting!!!!

Dave

Welcome to GTA Brian,,,, very nice to have you with us..

If you plan on removing the spring and going to a gas ram, or you plan on keeping the spring and doing a tune, make sure you either procure or build a spring compressor.  As you are aware the springs are under quite a bit of tension and can cause serious injury.

Pointed pellets are known for not flying well in springers in the Big Cat power class.  The only guns I have that shoot them well are my lower FPS chinese airguns.  I think you'll do much better with the CPHP's but there is also a chance that your rifle may not like them.  I would invest in a good pellet sampler pack, you can order one from straightshooters.com.  This will give you a good assortment of pellets and enable you to find a pellet, perhaps several pellets, that your rifle likes.

Again, welcome to GTA and I'll be looking forward to your future posts.....

my friend has a big cat and the only pointed pellets she liked where the gamo red fire, and the jsb preds polymer tiped the bigcat hated rws superpoints, beeman pointed, gamo masterpoints, and tomahawks. Try crosman hollows, and crosman destroyers 8)
keep your eyes on the prize & dont let it crawl away.

Welcome to the GTA forum and family.  1 to 1 1/2" groups out to 45 yards is great with a BC.....especially if it haven`t been tuned.  Use the dome style of pellets.....usually they`re the ones that give the best accuracy.
