Welcome to GTA Brian,,,, very nice to have you with us..
If you plan on removing the spring and going to a gas ram, or you plan on keeping the spring and doing a tune, make sure you either procure or build a spring compressor. As you are aware the springs are under quite a bit of tension and can cause serious injury.
Pointed pellets are known for not flying well in springers in the Big Cat power class. The only guns I have that shoot them well are my lower FPS chinese airguns. I think you'll do much better with the CPHP's but there is also a chance that your rifle may not like them. I would invest in a good pellet sampler pack, you can order one from straightshooters.com. This will give you a good assortment of pellets and enable you to find a pellet, perhaps several pellets, that your rifle likes.
Again, welcome to GTA and I'll be looking forward to your future posts.....
