Summit update
« on: January 05, 2010, 03:02:06 PM »
Well things are starting to look up for me. As I mentioned in a previous post I was able to fix the weak lock up problem on my new Remington Summit, with help from forum members. And the day got even better when my daughter called me today at work and told me that I received a package in the mail. I knew it was my new Sports Match one piece adjustable mount. I hustled home from work and started tinkering with different guns, scopes and mounts. The Gamo BC was topped with the new Sports Match and a 4X16 AO Center Point scope. And the Remington was reunited with its original one piece mount and 3X9AO Crossman scope. After making sure all the screws were tight on both rigs I headed to the basement to see how they would group. Both guns seem to be doing quite well with Crossman Premier hollow points. And I know from past experience that the Big Cat likes the Gamo Rockets. I will test both rifles with Rockets and Crow Mags in the coming days, but as you can see in the attached photo the Remington is shooting remarkably well for a brand new gun. All of these are a 5 shot groups from 15 yards. The top 2 groups were shot with the Summit and the bottom 2 groups were shot with the Big Cat. The “flyer” in the top left target was most likely cause by a loose fitting pellet. When I loaded it and it went right in with no resistance I thought about taking it out and replacing it. But I thought to myself how much different could it really be? Well that would have been an excellent group if not for that one shot, so know I know how much difference a loose fitting pellet can cause.  And as you can see the Big Cat gets an occasional flyer as well. Both guns have stock triggers in them so I could have easily just pulled those shots. I need to order new triggers for both guns in the very near future. And just so I have something to look forward to next week I just ordered a new B28 from Best Air Guns last night. With the addition of that gun I should be satisfied for a little while. I really need to slow down, the B28 will make the 3rd air rifle purchased since Christmas, but I keep telling myself the 44 dollar Power Line doesn’t really count and I feel like I made out quite well on a 100 dollar Remington Summit.

I almost feel sorry for those starlings!  I'm jealous that you've spent so little money to get three great guns.

I retired the old Daisy pumper as the skunks are just ignoring it when it hits them at 30 plus yards.  Down the stairs I went and got out "Old Reliable" my Sheridan 5mm.  Talking about sending Skunks running!  I lobbed a 5 mm pellet into one at 30 yards and sent it moving away at high speed.  I'm actually concerned that the foot lbs on my old gun can really penetrate the skin at that range.  I could see the pellet though and it looked like a rainbow.  :) No doubt it STUNG!

When I was in the Army I took that gun to the field with me to shoot while I was goofing off.  Well we were on a machine gun range firing tens of thousands of rounds from our tanks.  I jumped off the tank for a meeting.  I'd only went about 30 yards when something hit me in the temple just underneath my helmet.  I blacked out for a second and hit the ground.  All I could figure was that I was hit by a spent 7.62 mm round.

I rolled over on my back and felt the blood running down my head.  I was shaking when I reached up and FELT THE BULLET sticking out of my skin!  Imagine my shock when it was a 5 MM PELLET!  My tank crew thought they would shoot near me to rattle me and hit me in the HEAD!

I had a hard time explaining the wound in my head to the medics.  They patched me up.  Those guys went on KP everytime it was available!  I put them on EVERY detail I could put them on!

To this day I have a scar on my temple.  Though it has faded over the years, it still looks like a tiny gun shot wound.  In 10 years in the Army that was the only time anyone actually shot at me. :D

Good job and outcome with the Summit. It makes the sport just that much sweeter when you can pick up a REALLY good deal andmassage it into a good shooter. That's the TRUE pleasure in the sport for me. Excellent groups there. Just a couple of clicks on the elevation knob and you're THERE.

Happy Shooting!!!!

Now that's a pretty and accurate shooter ya got. Mine shoots 925fps/15ftlb with 7.9 CPHP. You will see it's full potential when you debur/lube tune it along with tuning the trigger.

Oh stop my side hurts from laughing. Terrific story. I don't know which one is better. ZYours, or the one posted on the Air Gun Gate about the boy with the old 760 crosman.
