enquiring beginners mind seeks feedback from the experienced ones.  I'm considering options.  I know very little.  I'm curious.

Eric, Based on alot of feed back I've read on the subject, I personnally wouldn't bother with the ram air piston guns unless it were a higher end gun like the theobins and such. But that's just a matter of opinion from my readings. As for the kits, for all I know it's pretty much hit or miss. Springs have been around a lot longer than the new technology, but have proven themselves over the test of time. Also, these kits are mass produced so they may work better on some types of guns than on others. My advice would be to get a gun of your choice, and get it tuned!! Most tuners I've encountered will spin a custom guide to fit either an after market spring and seal, or simply the factory set-up,.... and lube the weapon with the correct lubricants in all the right places. There are many well known and respected tuners here on the GTA forum, and I'm sure they will give you the best advice available. Good Luck, Thomas

The Air Venturi Pro-Guide spring retainer is NOT a gas ram/gas spring It is a three piece spring system that consists of a spring with a rear spring guide and a front spring guide which fit together when the gun is cocked and the spring is compressed. It is meant to be a drop in unit for the RWS 34, 48, 52 guns, to replace the factory spring and rear spring guide. It is intended to provide smoother cocking of the gun and less vibration upon firing. It may or may not depending on the gun, but would be a good deal easier than making a fitted guide.  A gas spring is a different unit altogther that replaces the regular spring and it's main advantage in my opinion is that it never will become fatigued when left cocked for long periods, as when hunting. There is an excellent article on the  Air Venturi Pro- Guide system on a recent Pyramid Air blog by Tom Gaylord.

well, i would also look at the peice that mike melick wrote in the china gate about it.  he put one in one of his china guns, and he said for the money, it was def. way to rough on the cocking...for a hundred dollar part, you shouldn't hear the coils moving over the guide.
