Glad you like it, Dave. Nice photos.
Mine is still on the way from Tennessee.
I figured Tommy would order one. I ordered the 1635 and am considering checking to see if any of the bigger 1630's are left. There's another goody with his name on it on the way to South Carolina. As you can imagine, it can be difficult to shop for the boy.
I had a Kershaw Ken Onion Leek (model 1660) which has become lost, and it was very useful. The Cyclone is a bit beefier, but is sure looks like a great design. I really like that blade profile. Flat ground is the way to go.
Be careful with the knife, what I read about the Sandvik alloy is favorable overall, but apparently it will rust if not cared for. I have not owned a knife with this alloy.
Here's one more tip I read long ago about knives. Lubricate with mineral oil. Plain drugstore USP, they sell it in 12 oz or pint bottles like alcohol. Works perfectly, does not smell, stain your clothes, and it is non-toxic in the event you want to use it for food. Get a little dropper bottle or a needle dispenser. Cheap but effective - for folding knives it is the thing. Works as a rust preventive, too.
Ken Onion became famous a custom knife maker, well known for his designs. When he licensed the designs to Kershaw, he has controls and he reportedly holds Kershaw to high standards for quality in fabrication and in materials. My guess is that they are discontinuing this steel, but that's only a guess. It is reportedly expensive.
