Surprised by Big Cat.
« on: October 09, 2009, 08:45:31 AM »
Been thinking about rebuilding my BC but it is shooting so darn well that I am going to wait.   Follows the good sence saying of " if it ain't broke don't fix it".  Got the springs , seals etc for the job.

When I first bought the  AG, the groups  were all over the paper. And every brand of pellet shot vastly different as to impact.  2 to 3 inches this way and that was the norm.
However, now groups of less than .50 inch at 45 ft are normal.   Now  Gamo hunters actually give the best groups of about 3/8ths inch at 45 ft.  Crosman HPs turn in the widest pushing 1/2 inch.   And I am not measuring CTC but rather edge to edge.  Very pleased at this time with the accuracy of this BC.   Using a BSA 4 power scope which is maybe slightly better than the gamo scope that came with the BC.

Either the gun has got better or I have got better.  Or a combination of both.
Gentleman of Fortune.

The Airgun Gods are with me.....all my airguns shot well to excellent from day 1, except for the Crosman Sierra Pro.  Most of them didn`t even need a break-in period!!!!  If one didn`t shoot well I would start to experiment with different pellets....always the cheapest ones to the expensive ones.  By the time I get to the 4th brand/type....usually it will shoot great.

My BC shot well with 4 types of pellets right from the beginning.  Since I changed it`s spring (Original broke after 4000 shots), it`s not liking the Crosman Wads as much....still likes the Crosman Hunting and Hollow Pts and Gamo Match pellets.  I`m getting 7mm groups at 8 meter distances.
Gamo: Expotec .177 + Big Cat .177 + Viper .177 + Whisper .177, Hammerli Titan .177, Diana model 24 .177, RWS-Diana P5 Magnum pistol .177, Crosman: G1 Extreme .177 + Storm XT .177 + Sierra Pro .177 + 1377 pistol .177, Air Arms S410SL .22, BSA Scorpion T10 .22, FX Cyclone .177, Remington Air Master 77 .177 + BB\'s,

Sometimes it is wiser to leave things alone instead of trying to improve them.  Used to have a good friend that was into British sports cars.  He would get a nice one and then proceed to "fix it".  Came by and showed my dad (who was a mechanic) a cherry little car he had just bought.  My mom asked what was the car like?  Oh, in really good condition, but it won't be for long.
