Need Some Advice - Selling on Gunbroker?
« on: March 23, 2010, 12:31:54 PM »
I have purchased a couple of firearms on gunbroker.com, but have never sold anything there.  Consequently, I will have no seller feedback.  I have looked up all the Ithaca Model 100 12-Ga. shotguns sold on gunbroker in the last 90 days and have a range of $560-$850 with the highest price for a very comparable gun.   I have checked with a local firearms dealer -- they basically offered me half what the gun is worth in trade.  Looks like I will pay gunbroker no more than $25 in fees for the transaction.  I am thinking about posting this and a matching 20-ga. on gunbroker to try to raise enough $$ to purchase a really nice Browning A-Bolt Target model in .308 Win.

Am I foolish to post these on gunbroker?  Anyone have any personal experience or advice selling there?  Thanks.

tommy, for what its worth..................i personally havent purchased off of the gunbroker site ( lord knows i browse it !! ) , but several of my swat, seal team buddies have used it to buy long guns. none of them have voiced any complaints, but like e-bay or any other sight unseen venue; communicatios and pics from the seller/buyer are paramount to a successful transaction.
having a friendly ffl dealer/licensee to work with helps tremendously im told .

I've bought off GunBroker and Auction Arms but haven't sold. Been thinking about it, though, because a couple of my guns will fetch much more via an auction than if I try to sell them locally. A gun shop will rip you off - end of story. BUT, you could see if they sell on consignment. Typical rate in my area has been 20% of the seller's price as commission. There are two locally that only charge 15% but one is kind of quirky and the other is picky about what they take in. So, you could sell on GunBroker for, say, $800 or consign it for $800 and (if you get your price) pocket $600. I've done consignments because, for me, it's simpler and I don't have to peddle the gun at a show or do the shipping. Man, I'm selling some air guns and I really hate to do the boxing up! Still, if your guns are popular models, you stand to make more in an auction.
