Brent, that squirrel had it bad didn't he? Squirrel season start's in late August in my area and I seldom start in earnest until mid-Sept. Even then,a few still have "wolves" and healing wounds. I hate it when that happens.By October most have fallen out and the squirrel is pretty well healed up.When I used to squirrel hunt around cattle farms, I thought I noticed a greater incidence rate. Thought maybe all the flies and cow patties might have had something to do with it.

Good job. I don't think you'll be eating that one. You're a good guy...you put him out of his misery.

Hope those bot flys don't wipe out the squirrel population...that would suck....no moving targets!!! You'd be sitting there twiddling your fingers, or checking out the window every chance you got to see if there's any varmints. I'm doing that right now...cause no grackles have landed in my backyard for 3+ weeks. grrrrrr

I don't like squirrels, but nothing deserves to suffer like that.  Killing him was definitely the humane thing to do.  Nice head shot.
Go git \'em!

Yeah, those warbles are nasty. Look on the bright side. Your fried squirrel lunch came with free fish bait.

Today I just saw a small red song bird....looks like a miniture cardinal....it'll be my excuse to set up a birdfeeder. I've heard it for a couple of days already...it just goes peep...peep.......at first I thought it was the sound of a cricket. If some grackles or crows happen to drop-by for some seeds....well....
