Welcome to the GTA family Chris and as for the Hunter Extreme I would think that she would be able to drop racoon, possum, G-dog and P-dogs with no problem but pellet selection and shot placement and the hunter's skill are a must as alway's. I beleive larger game can be dropped but as said pellet selection, shot placement and skill should be right on, no room for error. I have the 1250.22 Royal with a few nutter's under her belt but I'm sure she'll drop larger game with no problem, she's getting tuned right now. To give you a idea of what a .177 is capable of check out our past hunt's here and some in the ALBUM section of the forum. Again WELCOME TO GTA "A GREAT PLACE TO BE".  Ed

Chris,, welcome to the GTA!!  "Good Game Shots"??? Take some time & go back a ways here at Hunting Gate!! Lots of GREAT hunters here!! (Folks & Guns) The Hunter Extreem (Like many other magnum 177  guns) is capable of taking Racoon size game out to about 30 yrds with a WELL PLACED shot. (JMO)   If you want to hunt slightly larger game I would suggest you opt for 22 cal.  (I am looking at a H.E. also,, we may be looking at the same one!!LOL!!) Do you have any airguns now?? Do you hunt?? You have come to the right place if you do!!  Tim.

Thank you Ed, I love the GTA it gives a lot of help to air gun owners. I will be using the Predator 177. to hunt with. I hope that it will be strong enough to bring down racoon, possum, and small deer.

Hi Tim, Yes I do hunt, but I wont to hunt with a strong and accurate gun that I  can tune and change the barrel out and make it to a .20 caliber later next year.

What you hunt with has alot to do with where you hunt.

In Texas it is OK to hunt non-game with an airgun, but not game animals, including squirrels.
`
InSC, we have caliber limitations, ie; I can hunt squirrel with a .22cal, but not.25cal, and I can't hunt deer with .22cal but can hunt them with a .24cal or bigger.

Just wanted to welcome you the the forum Chris,,, nice to have you with us...

Like Ed (Shadow) I also have a GAMO 1250 Royal in .22 and it's a real powerhouse.  I've used it several times to take some good sized woodchucks, but with the power that it has I am confident that, with good shot placement, it's easily capable of taking out raccoons, possums, fox... etc.

I'll be looking forward to your future posts....

Jeff

Chris,, have you found a source for a 20 cal. brl. & breech block for the Hunter Extreeme?? That would be COOL!! "Small Deer"?? Not shure about that one Chris,, I dont know of anywhere that would be legal,, besides,, from an ethical standpoint,, just not acceptable. (Although Im shure someone has probly done it) Case in point,, I saw on TV!! where they shot a wild pig with one,, shooting what I personally consider to be one of the most useless pellets ever made!! What a Hoax!! (Not to mention BAD publicity) Hope you did not see that B.S.!!  Tim.

Do you have that source on hand so I can do more research on it. To see if I should buy a 22 cal or not.

Sean took a deer in NZ with a CFX if I recall correctly, but that is certainly legalin NZ andthe hunter knows aboutthe animal as well as the rig he's using . . .

Hello Chris, I guess you know that the Hunter Extreme is what the Hunter 1250 used to be with a few cosmetic changes. Currently the .177 is standard fare but the .22 version will soon hit the shelves. The Extreme is Gamo's most powerful springer producing 20+ fpe in .177. The new .22 cal Extreme will be a real hoss I expect. Forget about trying to shoot deer of any size with these guns. Not legal, not ethical and not powerful enough.Only about 15% of the muzzle energy(not velocity) of a standard  .22 LR rimfire. They are fine for small game up to Nutria size.I've killed many squirrels with the .177 versions of this model including some long shots.(Longer than you would believe) Groundhogs too.For Small game hunting, best all around performance has been for me the 10.5 gr Crossman Premier pellets and the 10.6 gr Beeman Kodiak. The gun is so strong that you need to shoot enough weight  to keep velocities below super sonic for best accuracy. The Extreme is English manufactured not Spanish like the other Gamo's.
