productive morning :)
« on: September 21, 2008, 05:18:47 AM »
I woke up early and found about 50 grackles in my yard squawking and fighting. I went and loaded up the 10 shot magazine on my BSA sportsman HV with .22 kodiaks and took aim on one of the ones I though was being the biggest bully :) I let the lead fly and he fell over and didn't move a muscle. when I took the shot I must have startled a squirrel that was out of sight and hiding behind my backstop. he came running out and finally stopped at 35 yards or so and looked back. I squeezed a shot off on his head and he fell over and kicked and flopped for a few seconds and was done before I could get off another shot. I saw his mate run off and was watching to see if he/she would come back. I went outside and took a pic of them and brought my little Crosman 1377 pump pistola for the walk incase I saw something else lurking around. I took the pic and saw the squirrel in my neighbors yard (cousin lives next door) and he told me to shoot the squirrels, because they were digging holes in his yard. I ran inside but it was too late and he was gone. I threw the grackle over the fence where the red tailed hawk likes to hang out and cleaned up the squirrel for the barbeque. I kept watching the window and  around 11:30 my wife left to go to her mothers for the day. I went back to the window as soon as I heard her car leave :) He he.  I looked and saw a squirrel moving on the edge of my cousins yard and was making its way to the corner of his yard where I could take a clear and safe shot. He came into the clearing and actually stopped for a moment and that is when I took aim on him. The squirrel was a good 50 yards out or better. I squeezed the shot off and to my amazement the squirrel just fell over and didn't move. I went over there and noticed that I hit him right where I was aiming. Wow, I am really liking the dark side right about now.

Good shooting Chris!  35yd head shots are not as easy as they sound.  Your BSA is certainly seeing a lot of action!  You seem to have a good supply of nutters in your yard.

I can't believe you got a Grackle!  I haven't seen any in over a month. Good work!
