JM doesn't sell tune kit for the Gamo rifles, doesn't like them much :-).  But he does sell springs, seals, and lubes separately.  Assuming the Whisper uses the same power plant all the other "1000 fps" Gamo's use, look for the E-2000 or E-1500 spring, and either the small Apex or Tesla seal.  BTW, it's been awhile since I looked, so this info could be out of date.  Hope it helps.

Dave

Correction:  Just looked, both springs mentioned above have been replaced by the E3650 spring.  Piston seal info is still good.

If getting a spring from JM, you'll want the E3650,or Tarantula spring, but if you don't have the tools needed to make a guide, you will not be able to take advantage of it. If you don't have the tools and are on a budget, get a Crosman Quest spring, top hat, new seal and lube properly. It won't be as good, but it's as close as you'll get on a budget.

I purchesed 2 E3650 springs and seals plus the 3 pack sample pack for Heavey Tar, Molly and Clear. The springs and seals worked great in both my CFX & Whisper, Sanded and cleaned all power chamber parts and reused, no need for anything other then the Spring & Seal. Power was increased greatly over what came out of the Box from the Factory. I was adviced NOT to shim spring makes it a rough shooter for not much more power, and They have worked just great.

How well did the spring fit the factory guide? If it didn't fit snug, your not getting the full benefit.

She is sitting nice and snug, F1 Chrony is putting Gamo 7.71 match pellets in the 950fps +/- 10 either way in 10 shot groups, PBA's are 1125 +/- 15 either way. She still needs several hundred rounds put thru her to let the seal and spring settle in to get a more accurate reading. Was adviced by CDT not to shim her, will make her feel rough. Fix has made me a new Top Hat to install, the one that comes in the Whisper is light and hollow, I am waiting for it now and will take her apart to install a solid TOP HAT, from the photo he sent me it looks great. And the spring I used is the E3650, which JM also recomended.

Reagrding the home tuner and for what it's worth.

Your best bet is the Maccari E-3650 spring, the small Apex seal #APV65798 or Tesla along with the Maccari lubes.  The E-3650 spring is a drop in spring that has an inside diameter about .010 less than the stock Gamo spring and though not a perfect fit spring is very good if you are not equipped to make guides. There really isn't anything wrong with using the factory tophat and it fits the E-3650 spring ID fairly well also. Using the Tarantula spring is another whole different story.

The one piece machined tophat solid tophat has both advantages as well as disadvantages. The advantages are if machined properly, will fit the piston better as well as the spring helping to center the spring and reduce canting. If the proper weight figured into it, it can help in increasing the velocity some but in many cases not worth the it because of the increased harshness. A lot depends on what spring and power plant it will be used for.

The disadvantage is that usually, depending on the weight, spring and seal, it will increase harshness in the firing cycle (and one of the reasons why Gamo went to the light weight tophat), some not so bad but others quite noticeable. Also, it does have a tenancy to increase detonation, especially if there is excess fuel for combustion. A good weight is about 45 grams.

Unless done properly and fitted to a given power plant, using a heavy solid tophat is not the best way to go.
