B11s first trip out
« on: September 27, 2008, 08:11:51 PM »
Summers on its way  and its light till 7:30/8:00pm so it a great time for a evening hunt. so at 3:00 I loaded the quad
on to the ute tossed a .22 B11 on the back seat and I was off.  15 min drive to the taylor pass then a 1 hour ride
to the head of the valley. Great place to hunt don't get a lot of people that far in as its a 3 hour walk.
Haddn't had the  quad out for 3 months Was having a ball rideing though/over all the new washout on the track
Just had one of the wetest winters for a 100 years so they tell us. After all the fun I parked up about 2km from the end.
I wandered along the side of the swamp that runs up the centre just staying behined the bush/scub line trying to stay out of
veiw from to open ground and there was the fist customer of the day nope he seen me about the same time got a great
veiw of his furry little ass disapairing into the scrub. kept walking but the word was out they knew I was there.
After 20 mins or so and a few shots at bunnys that there was NO chance of hitting with a air gun. There he was
just on the other side of a small stand of rush bushs and he hadden't seen me.  I droped down Got ready as I only had a few secs
once I stood up Put the gun to my shoulder peered through the scope and slowly stood up as the centre mill dot lined with his head
I let one go.  he just fell over no movement nothing. You would think after me coming all this way for him he could have made
a effort  and put up a bit of a fight.
I was happy first for 3 months  the quad has no lights so I thought I better get going wouldn't want to be in here in the dark

Nice shot and pic's Peter, healthy bunny there.:) As Peak said gorgeous area and it look's like prime hunting ground with the cover and water for the animals, two of the key factors when hunting for em. Thanks for sharing and I think this is your first hunting post, if so then CONGRATS! were looking forward to more. Ed

Thanks guys....Living here in the south island you tend to forget what yer got.
As you can be in the tidal logoons shooting ducks and a 1 hour
drive later you are in the high country shooting deer and if yer
wish stoping half way to pick up bunnys or pig.
Weathers getting good so I hope i will be able post a few more.
But the reall great thing is theres only 4 millon people in the whole
dam country and only 1 millon of the buggers in the south island.
