Darkness falls
« on: September 28, 2008, 02:08:00 PM »
and you all know where I've been. I made a early start of it tonight as I arrived at varmint central at 7:30pm, the owner has welcomed me with a smile every time and thanks me for the service that I provide. We talked over a cup of java and he is still amazed and impressed with my baby and her ability to drop these critters. As the sun slipped away and the evening shadow's arrived I told him that it was time for me to blend into the wood's and headed out, "good luck" he said and I thanked him and smiled. I Planted myself down against my lookout tree and watched the last ray's of light fade into dark to be  replaced by the one yard light which always highlighted moving critters. I slight wind picked up and put me on guard, didn't want to mistake a moving bush for a critter and at 8:30 the action started. He moved out of the darkness thirty yards down from me and slowly made his way for the house, I was already sliding down into the sniper position again locked and loaded. I followed him with the scope, adjusting as he went and just like clockwork made his way up onto the garbage can. He started to circle the top of the lid looking for a entry and me waiting for that moment for him to give me a shot.He presented the side profile and I took it with the crosshair's placed just below his ear I lit the laser and lamps and and sent him the Predator. He drops to his side on top of the can then rolls off with the distant sound of a " Thump" as he hits the ground then try's to crawl but to no avail and expires. Always wary of these guy's I reload and head for him slowly and as I looked down at him I noticed the lack of blood? hmmm. So I began to look for blood and that's when I noticed a small blood nick in the lower part of his ear so taking out my pocket knife I pulled back his ear to find the entry wound. The Predator had entered just above the base of his inner ear into the canal of it, direct shot into the fusebox. I was still amazed at the lack of blood from his mouth or nose but the Predator found its mark and that's what I was looking for. Grabbed some pic's for you Hunt hungry guy's hehehe then loaded up and headed home early for a change.:) I think I'm getting night vision with all this night hunting lol, I wish hehehe. Ed

I'm still trying to nail the raccoon that raids my yard,,,,, he's nowhere to be found lately,, but I've got plenty of time to wait him out......

Loved those pics buddy,,,, makes me wanna grab a gun and head off into the night.

Good shot Ed!  No doubt that pellet went right to the middle of the brain without hitting any major arteries and put his lights out.  Great pic and story!

I had shot a fat g-hog about 1-2mm behind the eye and only got a couple of drops of blood where the POI was, nothing coming out of any other holes.  He dropped and expired immediately.  That's how you know you hit the "best" part of their brain.  There are brain shots and then there are brain shots.

Great Shooting Ed!!! Nice pics and great account of the hunt :)  If you had night vision, no critters would be safe at night in your area...lol

Wow, night stalker, you really are a serial killer......of critters. Great shot. I'd love to get some coons like those. I've never tried coon meat before. Have had barbecued beaver. It was good. I wonder how barbecued squirrel would be? We're going to make you an honorary redneck, based on your hunting and shooting skills.
