Just staying focused
« on: October 05, 2008, 04:25:19 PM »
on the job at hand.:) I've been keeping busy  with airgun projects, a new camo project and finishing up a long overdue one . I've been sneaking into GTA everyday to check for varmints and spending my evenings in the wonderful dark and peaceful woods, at least till I get there hehe. The last several evenings were spent scouting out a new hide location at night critter central since I've noticed that they are taking a different route to the house due to my unseen but not unnoticed presence in the woods. With a new location selected yesterday I settled in this evening at my new hide which had a perfect open lane from me across the lawn but added another fifteen yards from the garbage can to me, I was at twenty yards before. I had already planned for the extra yardage and resighted her in the day before so all was Zen. 7:30pm and daylight fades away and on go's the yard light to give the area just enough light to see any movement across the yard. Another hour passes when I spot a raccoon appear fro the trees down at the end but moves off into the darkness on another scent, save him for another night. Well it's almost 10:00pm and I get up to stretch my legs when from the same area that the raccoon came from this guy appears. He's on a mission as he makes a direct line from the treeline to the garbage can and without a second thought I raised up the CFX and followed him with the scope. He began to sniff around the can and had found a wrapper of something and started to chew away on it. He was right under the yard light so no need for the lamps and with a slight adjustment of the scope and crosshairs and laser on a perfect side profile, planted on his sweetspot I gave him the Predator. It HAMMERS! him and he slumps over to his side right there with very little struggle. Reloading and moving across the yard I kept a eye on him but he was finished but I always give em a couple pokes anyway hehehe. Major head wound here and another garbage raider meet's the end of the trail. This one was going in my icebox but the resident said he hadn't had possum in years and took him off my hand's. I grabbed a couple pic's from tonights ongoing night battle and I cleaned him up for the Gentlemen, his wife is gonna scream when she opens the fridge in the morning lo lol. Just doing my night hunt thing and bringing my GTA hunt family the results. Ed

Great hunt buddy, super pic too...  Fine lookin possum for sure.  I love your night hunts.

BTW,,,, just when I thought my night raiding raccoon had decided to leave me alone he struck again.  I've got the Talon all set up now for night huntin, but if I don't have any luck I may have to fly you and the CFX in for a couple days :)

Thank you fellow hunters and Jeff hold tuff, he'll be back. They start moving from dusk to dawn but they have no set schedule , bummer hehehe. Once they know where they can get scraps they add it to their nightly dinner runs. I've witnessed the same raccoon show up at 8:30 one night and then 10:00 another, this raccoon had a stub tail so he was easy to identify and he's got to be close to 30lbs with a very gray face. I'm thinking he's a old feller and I've left him alone for breeding stock, gotta keep busy lol and I respect him for keeping his hide for so long.:) Ed

Randall since you have a shortage of RATS! I can get some live COUNTRY RATS! and send em your way.:) Be careful when opening the box though, they might be kinda testy after the trip. Ed
