No varmits left
« on: October 06, 2008, 12:36:05 PM »
As I stand in the kitchen and spy out the jealousy window I realize that I have killed them all.  I should have practiced game management, but the hunt got the best of me... There are no rats to be seen, no movement even with my night vision.. Its  A SAD DAY ONLY SHOOTING PAPER..  Here I sit smack dab in the middle of the city and no woods for miles around. It used to be game on, but I got greedy and killed em all..  insert head hung low here..
I guess i am headed to pet smart to buy some rats and get the population started again..  Mabey 3 pair and a bag of rat builder feed and utilize somekind of program that enhances breeding....  think game management guys.. or it gets real boreing..

man, i thought i was the only one that felt like this. sometimes on my way home from work, i see nutters in yard after yard going toward my house. when i pass them with my flowmasters flowing nice and deep, i see them do what they use to do in my yard. they run up about 4-5 feet up a tree trunk. they turn around upside down. then they just freeze and wait to see what the danger is. then i think to myself, "i remember when they use to do that in my yard." difference is, in my yard, they would have the cfx pointed at them. first i killed all the nutters living in my trees. then i killed all the nutters that come from my nieghbor's yards. and so on and so forth. now, my ground is covered with acorns like never before. i guess there is some truth to over hunting a critter.

I know how you guys feel! I killed em all at my house too,....BUT..................HANG IN THERE!!!! THERE is hope!!!!!!!!!!!!  After a couple of months of religiously filling my bird (really rat) feeder I noticed last night that a big rat had returned.   Now I am faced with the problem....do I take it out now or wait for em to build up again???

I have no doubt the rats will return...  It's darn near impossible to totally eliminate them, I'll bet you there's at least one breeding pair still around,,, and one breeding pair is all you need   :)

give it some time....

We're in the "same boat" here!! We've taken over 135 chipmunks and 13 squirrels on 2.5 acres. Yes, we've overdone it---the greed really sets in---seeing how long of a shot you can make offhand and resting----its completely addictive!!

There are a few baby chippers left and a few neighboring squirrels, but that's all----we're hoping they make their way over!!!!!! I've begun only punching paper for the last month or so in hopes that they'll pick up where they left off and procreate. The neighbors keep asking me to get all of them, but I just can't do it---I want to have lots of "game" for years to come.

I have experienced "lackofvarmintosis" at my house, too, but alas, with nothing to shoot, I find other productive things to do.... Like work in the garage on my Road Runner!

Hey, Storm XT, what ride do you have Flowmasters on?  I am going to put the big 3" Walker Dynomax Super Turbos on my Plymouth to quiet it down a bit. I am sure by the time I have the Road Runner in full swing, the nutters will be back in my walnut tree and my attention will once again be drawn to a set of crosshairs placed squarely on the fusebox of an offending rodent.

I'm fortunate enough to have met people who were in need of pest removal services.:) My bird feeders have taken a beating by the squirrels but I keep filling them knowing that winters coming and I will have tree's around me full of nutters. I've also left "Squirrel City" cool for awhile since I've been on night patrol but will be getting after the nutters over there shortly to then the herd some. I haven't even hit the state hunting land yet, oh the bounty.:) Ed
I airgun hunt therefore I am... };)  {SHADOWS Tunes & Camo}  airguncamo@yahoo.com

Nope, go with the classics, like that roadrunner, or my Vert...... (will give those critters plenty of time to pro-create)
