Gamo Big Cat Takes it's first BT!!!!
« on: October 12, 2008, 08:00:32 AM »

Howdy Folks, Been a busy weekend here in the upstate. Digging up tree stumps, enjoying a few cold one's, and did a little hunting!!!! Loanedthe BC to my friend Pete this past week to let him get some practice with an air-rifle, and his technique has really improved. I think I've been successful in passing onthe AG addiction. Truth be known, he's already went out to Academy Sports looking at some newrifles. Bought himself a gamo sampler and a squirrel call too!!!! After I trick it out, I'll probably just give him the dang thing anyways!!! Got to do the CFX Marauder 'treatment' to it first. I opted to leave the Sierra and the 34onthe rack and decided on my Fav rifle using Beeman Cro's this time.Anyways, we walked the pasture tree line Saturday morning andPete spotted a BT about 40 to 45 yards away. Went to cocking it and the BT ran to a tree 10 yard away. I said to him,...'just freeze for a moment',...which we both did. Pretty soon afterwards that little fella decided to head back to the other tree where Pete spotted him. Slowly he raised the BC, aimed and fired the Gamo Hunter. I knew he hit the critter from the distinct 'plop' sound,...as well asthe 'what should I do dance' the BT started doing. Tried to climb the tree but jumped to the ground and back to the tree again. As this went on, I circled aroundto the side of the tree(about 25 yards away) and saw the rascallaying in the trunk roots of the water oak tree. Through the scope I could see where the pellet hit him in the lower rib cage, and knewit was over with. Still breathing though, I saw it was time to turn out the lights quickly. SoI raisedmy seniorita ( sorry Wes, yours isn't ready for the field,.... just yet) scoped in the head, and fired."Pop" made the sound, andthe squirrel layed to the side with a quick quiver, then silence.Got an eye-ball shot!!! I give Pete and the BC credit for this kill because the BT would have died a slow death and I'm posotive there was no way it would recover after the initial hit. I justended the suffering in a humane way. Took two more that morning with the 0035, with one shot kills. Here are a couple of pix of the harvest. Along with the Gamo Big Cat and the Marksman0035 is me with Brutus and JoJo. Pete says they're Black Lab mixed with Rotties maybe?!?!?,...but I'm leanning more towards Mastiffs,...Not Bull-Mastiffs. Much bigger than any Rotty I've ever seen.tjk

Thanks fellas. J told me how to edit before, but when I hit the edit icon it automatically jumps from the script page staight to the original. I just want to align the pix so nobody has to side scroll through the thread!!!! Arrrrr!!! Had the girls this weekend,...Mae and E'beth, so it was nice to head out into the woods without worrying about a baby-sitter! Beth's a great GF and more importantly, she understands how much I need to get into the country!!!! We had some BT pot-pie for Saturday night supper,...and it didn't last long!!!!! I still think the GTA aught to have a 'cookin'  gate, but have found all kinds of recipes on-line. When my dumb-@$$ figures out how to list them in some threads, I'll pass them along to the rest of the GTA fam!! And for those who give a darn, I'm positive that the Cro mags are better for the 0035 than the Beeman SB's. That Webley/Patriot spring is just to powerful for such a light-weight pellet. She shoots the Cro's like she's PO at something!!! Even better, the Beeman SB's work great in the 0035 I bought from WesCombs (that Mike in Iowa tuned). Not near as fast as my first tuned Marksman, but better suited for lighter weighted pellets. Still a very fine rifle Wes!!! Just a few more adjustments and she'll be ready for some field use!!!! Talked to Pete this morning, and he's already planning next weekends hunt!!!! Boy's hooked for sure!!!! LOL's Happy Shooting Folks!!!!!!! tjk

Harry, if I saw these two coming at me,....crap man I believe I'd faint from fear and hope to God that the 'possom' trick would keep them from ripping me to shreads!!!! Worst part is they're not even a year old yet. Despite their size, they really are a pair of gentle giants. Unless they aren't familiar with you,...then you'd better scurry up a tree and sit with the BT's!!! LOL's They're more or less 'house dwelling' dogs. Talk about the ultimate ADT system!!!! Take them on a BT hunt?!?!??  NOT!!! The ground shakes when they're around. They'll knock ya back with a tail wag!!!! tjk

If those two "doggies" see a fallen nutter.....all they`ll bring back would be some crushed bones, flesh and holey fur.  ha ha   Excellent shooting with the airguns.
