This is my first post in the hunting forum, after having enjoyed it for several months. Thanks to everyone who has made this forum enjoyable and informative.
I've enjoyed hunting for years, but have recently moved to a big city which limits my hunting to a few weedend trips a year. When I lived in the country I could easily scratch that hunting itch by easily accesible varmint hunting. Living in the city, I no longer have those oppurtunity with my .22lr, it's way too loud and too much gun for the purpose. So after doing some research I settled on getting an adult AG, perfect for my idea of ridding my property of rats and squirrels, and punching paper in my basement.
Over the past few months I've picked up a B26-2 that I had TT'd that's absolutely dead accurate in .22. I also Picked up a Mac1 Discovery that is very neighbor friendly with it's barrel break.
I have taken a few rats already with the B26-2, but had not used the Disco for anything but punching paper.
I figured that since I had the day off today, I would give her a go at the out of control squirrel population. I have a unique situation in that I only have about a 20 ft. space that I can shoot at safely in my backyard, any further to the left or right and I lose my back stop. So i set up in the window that gives me the most access to shooting space. I have a fence about 20 yards away that the squirrels use as their superhighway and it didn't take long before one showed up. A couple strolled on the fence and didn't stop long enough for a good shot. Then a big one comes through with a snickers wrapper in his mouth lol. He stopped and started handling the wrapper, I quickly shouldered the disco, placed the crosshairs between the ear and eye, and let fly with a Predator. I saw him move just before I fired, and thought I may have missed, as he was no longer in my sites, and didn't see any death dance movement below. I went out to check where I hit on my backstop (my garage) and looked at the spot below the fence where i aimed which has about 4-6" of thick grass, and lo and behold, was a big male squirrel. The entry wound was not where I intended it to be, his movement forward led to him being hit at the shoulder, with the pellet exiting the other side. Never had a body kill before, but it was definitely lots less dramatic then when I've hit em with head shots from my .22lr. The thing must have dropped dead on the spot, without any movement......I'm impressed. Here are some pics of my my disco with it's first get. Anyone else have the same observations w body shots?
