Back at em
« on: October 17, 2008, 05:02:56 AM »
For the last four day's I've been busy with family medical problems so I've been driving all back and forth to the doctors, clinics etc. As always family first as the way it should be:) but I haven't been able to get out on night or day patrol. Today a got a break from driving Miss Daisy's so to speak hehe so I camo'd and loaded up and headed for Squirrel City. I arrived on location and chatted with the resident a moment then headed for the wood's. With my B26.177 loaded with a CPHP I slipped into the shade of the tree's and was greeted by the first nutter of the day as he barked at my unwanted presence. I replied as I lifted her up and placed the crosshairs on the front of his mug and at about 20yrds sent one directly into his chatter box. He dropped stone cold dead from his branch and I counted out some yards on my way to retrieve him, 22 yrds and one down. I kneeled down to further inspect him when I noticed something in the tree's out a ways. I dropped to my belly and crawled over behind a big ol downed tree and watched him move through the tree's but he wouldn't come any closer. I silently reloaded and slide her up and over the tree just in time to see him make his way down a tree and onto a limb and plant himself. He focused in at 30yrds and with a perfect side profile I sent another CPHP which found it's mark with the sweet sound of a solid impact. Getting to my feet I reloaded just in case hehe and headed his direction and at the same time watching him hang by one hand from the limb. That lasted only a moment then he gave up the ghost and dropped to the ground. Found him at 26yrds with a small amount of brain matter starting to swell out the hole, grabbed em and did one more scan around but after two of their buddies dropping the rest were in stealth mode so I set them up for a pic on the log that I had been hiding behind hehe and also grabbed a couple pics of Squirrel City, the tree's are plum full of nest and thinning is still in order.:) Cleaned my harvest and headed out for the day, resting up for night patrol tonight.:) Ed

Thanks Craig and its never had any hunting pressure so its prime.:) I also noticed dozens of baby nutters running around so next year should be plentiful but I didn't tell the resident that hehe, got to keep the hunting ground stocked:) Ed

Wow, that is gorgeous.  I miss that (I grew up in a rural midwest town).  To me nothing beats the fall in the midwest.  Those are very large squirrels, must be putting on weight for the winter.  Great shooting. es

Thanks guys and Randall I thought that also when I started to clean em but to my amazement it was a old war wound, a scar and under the hide.......a BB!!!. Someone took a shot at him awhile back and didn't finish the job.:(  As I always say, the right shooter for the job and shot placement.:) Ed
