either everyne is out hunting/shooting or we've given up on  fooling around with QB's.

Guess I'm guilty of that as well, once you get them set up the way you want them, there's not a whole lot to post about.

Almost finished the stock on the QB78-.25.  Left it alone for a bit to be used, testd, and let the factory finish take a few knocks...which usually chips the thick finish and leads to a case of stock-measles.  Removed the factory toe-nail polish and am in the last stages of finishing the stock.  Will let this age for a day or two, then buff it down a bit and add a final coat.

Never know what you'll get under the factory finish.  this one doesn't have much grain pattern, but picked up an inerresting reddish/pinkish tint (why?...haven't aclue, used the same substances on it as on the toher QB stocks).

Looks good. If my stock was in good shape, I would re-finish mine too. I'm thinking of building a plywood (laminate) stock for mine.

What kind of numbers are you getting out of that .25. I'm wishing I'd gotten a .22. I de-tuned mine a bit to get more shots out of two powerlets (.177) I was getting 830 with about 20 good shots. Now I'm getting 815 and about 28-30. I think I'll leave it. Been seriously thinking of bulk fill because I'm tired of buying powerlets. Any ups and downs? BTW, very accurate considering that it only cost me $74.

Shoots the heavy weight Kodiaks better than anything else tried, so that's what it's sightned in for.  Gets 612fps with those 30.7gr. pellets (25 1/2 foot pounds).  Can go a lot faster with the light weight 21gr. pellets....but the BC of the Kodiak is so high, the down range energy is much better with the heavy weight (drop is a bit more with the heavy weight, but the Kodiak drifts less in the wind, so it works out about even for getting kills.)

Too bad they don't make 7mm pellets. I have a .280 Remington barrel I'd like to install on one. I may have to make a 7mm swaging die and make my own pellets. Would probably be easier to just rebarrel it to .30 cal, but what fun would that be?
What's the diameter of the .25 caliber pellets? I have a .257 Roberts barrel I could use, if the barrel groove diameter is close enough to the pellet diameter.

.251".252" works out about right....which is the diameter of most of the old .25 RimFires and the current .25ACP (as if the makers of those pocket guns really pay a lot of attention to exact bore size).  .25 airguns have a lot of history, and like .22's, they setllted on a smaller bore than is common for centerfires.


Found the data on light weight pellets.  Was getting 20gr. .25's up to 688fps.

While 612fps doesn't sound real exciting...did some tests on wet newsprint...which put things in a different perspective.

I've been QB tinkering a bit lately too.  Have a TF79T .177 on HPA and a basket case AR2078A .22 on bulk CO2.  The .177 is pretty danged accurate, but I still haven't dialed my .22 in yet.  They're pretty fun guns to tinker with for sure:)

First, is that St Augustine grass in those pics? Looks like it.

Second, What do you use to refinish your stocks? I like the looks of it.

Yes...St. Aug.  Bottom pix is current, but I've gotten it back to green with a little feed and care.  Staying underwater for a few days (Hurrican Gustav) didn't do it any good.

Chemical paint stripper (not the eco-friendly stuff,  that takes several applications...use the stuff that will eat unprotected skin), lots of sanding through various grades of sandpaper ending up with 220grit.  Can stain the stock if you don't like the color at his point.  Then a thick coat of VARNISH which gets sanded  back to wood (leaving the wood pores filled).  Can use TruOil or any of the other rub-it-on gun stock finishes.

them gals are looker's Jeremy, nice work. My Flying Dragon tuned Deluxe QB-78 was laying low for awhile so I got her out for some paper punching since the cool temp is upon us here. She still punches out the tightest groups of all my babies. Ed
