Dissapointed or not
« on: October 20, 2008, 03:44:26 PM »
Guys, sometime I will buy a PCP (sooner rather than later). The Discovery is on the list towards the top, because of the $. I read about it and it seems like a very good choice (my other choice would be the Condor....way more $, but I could wait and save). What do you owners (first time and seasoned alike) think about it . Would you buy it again? Did it exceed your expectations?

Thank you for your help.

I am very satisfied and would not hesitate to buy again. IMO for the money it can not be beat . I have a .177 and have been shooting at 50 yards all summer and have no complaints . It is like all PCP's you have to find the right fill PSI and shot count for the distance you shoot . Also what is very handy about it is when you shoot a lot as I do  . I can take my bottle to the range and shoot my big bore first that takes a 2700 PSI fill . After the tank pressure drops to 2600 PSi I put it down and can shoot the Discovery for days with what air is left in the 80 CF tank .Marvin

I had one when they first came out and I wound up returning it due to accuracy problems.  In all fairness though I have to say that I heard when they first came out the Q/A was hit or miss so I guess I just got a bad one.  I hear the out of the box Q/A is tightened up now so I may purchase another one in the near future, although I think if I do I'll just go ahead and order a tuned one from MAC 1 or one of the other dealers offering the tune/mod service,,,, that way the "hit or miss" factor can be all but eliminated.

I will say that the one I had had great power, was nice and light, easy to get on target and if you get a good one you certainly can't beat that price for a PCP.  I look at them almost everyday online,,,, will probably take the plunge a second time in the very near future....

Performance has been great.  Construction, fit-n-finish, has been about par for Crosman...not bad, but definately one of the places where  the low price (for a PCP) shows itself.  No complaints, it's the best low priced PCP (and maybe the BEST bulk fill co2).

Just scoped my .22-------
« Reply #5 on: October 23, 2008, 02:42:05 PM »

Hey Guys,

I shot my new .22 disco a few weeks ago and just got it scoped up today. It was shooting about 8 inches low at 20 yds. with open sights right out of the box. I didn't have the time or the tools to work on it then. I'll get it out this weekend and see what it'll do---I can't wait, I put a Bushnell 4-12x40 on it. So far I was a little concerned with it shooting so low, but heck, I didn't adjust it at all. Take care.

Not at all :)

but it depends what you want. For the price the Discovery is a rifle you don't mind trying a few things on. I think that is a good thing as an intimate hands-on relationship with your rifle can't be anything but good. There are some that want to take a Daystate out of the box and shoot as well as the money paid and that is OK too. The other extreme is taking a Crosman and putting wayyyyyy more time and money than most would consider prudent. I think the Disco is a good compromise.

Dave
It\'s OK to explain why it won\'t work, but I like to give the guys making it work plenty of room:)

My .22 disco is only 2 days old and 200 rounds. I have both rotator cuffs torn and a L4 disc bulge, and no problems pumping but I will get a tank for speed. My only complaint was the finish on the stock, VERY rough. But a great rifle, fun, powerful, accurate and light.

Just curious,,,, is your disco stock just outa the box or did you get a "prepped one" ????

Reason I'm asking is that I may order another one one of these days and am trying to decide if I wanna get a prepped one or just a stock one.  I'd rather get one stock, simply for the cost savings, but then again the prepped ones take all the worry out of getting a "good one"....

thanks....

I just got a stock gun from PA when they became available. It won't be a big deal to sand down and refinish, I already smoothed the butt end with 600 grit and oil. Lucily the finih is so thin it didn't even clog the paper.

Put me down as one happy with the Discovery.  Mine's a .177 and is a very nice sample.  Shoots much better than I can.  I like the classic look and light weight.  Trigger was easy to greatly improve.  It doesn't leak.  I've mounted the cheapo WalMart $30 BSA red dot sight and like it a lot.  Only complaint is that the thing is LOUD.  I made the hammer spring adjustable and can dial the bang back to a peep and still have enough fps for indoors/backyard stuff.  Lots more shots, too.  Takes 60 to 70 strokes on the hand pump to run from one end of the green zone on the gauge to the other and pumping a 2000 psi gun is much easier than doing one to 3000 plus.

I love mine.  I've had it since the spring of this year.  It is accurate and powerful.  The only complaint is the noise.  It's about as loud as a .22 CB.  I don't think any of my neighbors have noticed as I try to shoot it when they are not outside.  I've taken many one shot kills on squirrels.  I"d buy it if I were you.

I love mine! Just came back from shooting it outside. After some tuning it shoots very consistant from 2000 to 1000 psi. It is not as fast as some other Disco's (does 790's in .22) but I'll take that with the consistancy it has. Also VERY accurate. Only complaint is the stock, it's a tad too short even for me (I'm 5'-9")

Considering the price, Crosman couldn't have done it better.
