Talon SS vs Talon
« on: October 27, 2008, 10:47:04 AM »
Other than the barrel is there a difference between the Talon and the SS?
I heard that the body is longer on the SS.

Yes, the body is longer on the ss, I would get it instead of the talon, but that is MO.

Darren, the Talon is gonna shoot a bit faster(100fps) than the SS because of the 18" barrel but the SS is not as loud with the shroud,The Conder & SS have the same size frame, which is about 3" longer than the Talon........BTW...I will email you with the numbers you requested....it's just been a bit crazy with the move......The SS is awesome, you'll luv it........

Wow! Shows what I know. I thought the SS and Talon were the same frame, just that the SS had a 12" barrel and the regular Talon had an 18"er. Am I wrong?

The Talon SS frame, and Condor frame, are longer than the Talon frame by about 5 inches. I have had both and the Talon @@ is a better choice IMHO. The Talon SS is capable of all the power of the talon with a 5 screw barrel swap, but the talon is not capable of the quitness of the SS without a extra shroud.

Barrel difference too...
« Reply #6 on: January 31, 2009, 11:27:26 AM »
...the 12" barrels are a bit skinner as well.  Not real sure why they elected to have two different diameter barrels, but the longer barrels are also fatter/heavier.  Doesn't make much difference, can interchange the barrels because the barrel bushings that hold it all in place  have the same spacing/hole pattern.

So besides the Talon SS having a longer frame, it has a skinner 12" barrel.  Could add an 18 or 24" barrel to a Talon SS without any problem, but it would stick out past the frame and be as loud as the standard Talon.

You mean like this?

I use a 4500 psi industrial nitrogen cylinder for my rifles, put this filler together myself, most of it came from NAPA, everything except my foster fittings is rated for at least 5000 psi.  You can't see it in the pic, but the end of the hose has a female foster quick disconnect on it, my various rifle adapters have matching male foster fittings on them.  BTW, the hose is the one thing I need to change, I used regular 1/4" hydraulic hose, and it wastes a lot of "air" when I bleed it off.  A micro bore hose would be a better choice here.  But one fill setup can handle multiple guns with minimum hassle.  And yes, you can set up an Air Force filler the same way, that's what I started with.  Later.

I just ordered a new Talon from Mac 1 yesterday and I was told they could get the Talon quieter than the SS with more accuracy and 100 fps faster. I paid the extra to let them do their thing on it. I do know they are adding a brake on it.

Sam,
I love the talon. It's the most accurate thing i've ever had my hands on. It's also really quite. I really couldn't believe just how quite Tim got it. He had all the setting information were he tested it wrote on the back of the owners manual when it got here. I did tinker with the settings a little bit but it's pretty much at it's best where he had it. The weather here was pretty nice this past Sunday so I set the bench up and brought out the sand bags just to see what I could do with it. It is shooting 1/2" groups at 48 yards. I moved my trap in at what I thought was about 10 yards and put my range finder on it and it was setting at 39 yards. I put in a fresh fill and started shooting groups at that distance. I was amazed at just how these things shoot. I got to where I was just shooting a pellet in the target away from the other holes then I would shoot the pellet hole.I've not picked up any of my springers since this rifle got here. I'm addicted to it. I have my condor sent to Tony at Talon Tunes getting it worked over. I can't wait until it gets here.
