MRS. QUESTS FIRST KILL
« on: October 31, 2008, 08:54:18 AM »
This morning while driving to work my phone rings..  Hunny  Aussie has a big possum trapped on top of the fence, what do I do..
Well seeings how I never get to see the darn thing, I said can ya shoot it..  Hunny I don't know anything about those guns of yours...
Well go into my shop and get the longest one in there with the big fat thing on the end of the barrel..  ok hang on..
Now on the kitchen counter there is an open can of pellets that have red tips on them..  Yes I see them..
Ok get one and then break the barrel down towards the floor...  UHHH I'm gunna have to put the phone down to do that.. ok but make sure you break it all the way over till it stays..
A few seconds go by with me thinking she might nock herself out if she doesn't get it all the way..
Ok hunny its open... Now take the pellet and stick it red point first into the little hole at the start of the barrel  and close the gun back,,, AND DON'T TOUCH THE TRIGGER....
Now what do I do.. Put the dogs in the house and shut the door on them...  then walk back to within 15 to 20 feet and look thru the scope, put the x on his ear and squeeze the trigger..  Ok i need to put the phone down again.

I hear her talking to the possum ::  You know i hate to do this but you brought it on yourself..  time was standing still still at this point waiting to hear the report of the predator on bone...
  Phhaaat..  silence fell!!!!!!
Hunny it blew him over the fence..  it seems he was standing on top of the cedar pickets trying to get as high as he could..
IT SOUNDED LIKE YA GOT HIM,, Yes it knocked him off but i cant see him thru the fence..  Ok hunny go put the gun back in the shop and go on to work, I'll look for him when i get home..
 Ok bye...

I pondered all day at work where she hit the thing and if she really shot it..  So the first thing I do when i get home is get the ladder and peer over the fence..  Holly crap!!!!  look at the size of that sucker.. There he lay at the base of the fence like he never moved..  and she hit him in the neck and it was an instant kill..

All done over the phone with my exellent varmit hunting wife.

Sounds like your lady is a Natural!  And a keeper too!!! My ol' lady would kick me in the pants if I kept a can of pellets on the kitchen counter.  "You can't keep those in here!  They're lead!  Put them in your office with the rest of your junk!"  That's what I'd hear.  She wouldn't even think of shooting one of my rifles, let alone be able to cock one of them.

Thanks for the play-by-play.  That was hilarious!
Go git \'em!

folks  She is my new Annie Oakley...  That woman cocked and loaded the whisper and  aced the varmit with a little coachin on my part..
She is a somewhat non killin type person except for me killin the rats. but this possum has kept us up at night with the dogs barking at it.  the neighbours have called the pound on them for barking so much and she knew it had to go...  She really stepped up to the shooters box this time..

It was to funny her tellin it I'm sorry you brought it on yourself before she dispatched it.. lol

Alright, I'll be the lone voice of dissent here. That is a waste of a good eating sized possum. Besides, possums are very beneficial. Nature's garbage disposal, a land based catfish, if you will.
I think you would have been 100% justified in calling in sick to go back to shoot/dress it and stick it in the freezer.  "Sorry boss, I had a flat tire and had to change it on the side of the highway."
Unless your boss is like mine. In that case, your own death does not excuse you from work.

My wife would've started feeding it and the ugly vermin would have ended up in the house. Then she would expect me to take care of it.
