Still plinking away
« on: November 02, 2008, 02:13:07 PM »
It was an absolutely wonder fall weekend here in central Illinois. The leaves in the trees are most turned and showing peak colors. The patch of woods I normaly haunt is mostly soft maples with a few oaks and hickorys. The hot squirrel hangout are easy to spot as they are a different color. Hunting is a little easy with less leaves in the trees but at the same time I know the little devils can see me tooand are hunkering down for cover. Below are the results for a few hours hunting each day (one each day).

It is very acurate with a rest, I find it rather heavy for unrested shots. As for knock down power, I'm using RWS Superpointed Extras 8.3 gr. they have a snug fit in the breech and can punch through 15/32 plywood

Great shooting with the Discovery.  I think fall is the best season for romping thru the woods....not too cold or hot and no pesky bugs.

The last few weekends the weather has been absoultely miserable. This morning was clear and bright however this weekend is deer season and woods are full of hunters that shoot at anything that moves. So here I sit enjoying a cup of java and the dog want to go out. I go to the door and who is looking me in the eye but my arch enemy Mr. Squirrel. He scampers from the top of my garage to a near by limb within jumping distance as I stepped into the garage to get Uncle Ben Sheridian. I quickly cock and load up a JWS super heavy and step to the side door, only to be looking that same tree rat eye to eye again. I raised up Uncle Ben and let it fly, hitting the tree rat squarely through the front shoulders and knocking him off his perch. Mr. Squirrel hit the ground with out much as a twitch. Looks like squirrel melts for lunch!

Good shot William!  Uncle Ben sure laid down the law!  hehehe
I hope you don't run into those Commando squirrels that Randall has in his back yard :-)

If I run into any of those commando squirrels, I'm going to have to upgrade to a full automatic air rifle and build a bunker to take cover in!
