RWS 460...

Was just at longislandairguns.com and was looking at the RWS 460 magnum.  Man that's a pretty rifle.  I know its German and very high quality but what makes it worth $100s of dollars more than a CFX?  Is it really $300 better?  I mean, they both kill tree rats, right?

A dead nutter is a dead nutter and a tree rat certainly doesn't care much about the cost of the rifle that killed him :)

That being said,,,, is the 460 really worth $300 more than a CFX ??  Well, it's like anything else,, it all depends on your perspective.  I have GAMO rifles and I love them ,,,, I also have some more expensive German rifles and I love them too,,, and all of them get the job done which for me is hunting....  

I appreciate the GAMO rifles for the qualities that they have and I appreciate my other rifles for the qualities that they possess.  

But in the end it all comes down to killin that squirrel and both will get the job done....

well, the 460 is supposed to have more power than the 350(but it doesn't)...they are both good guns...the cfx will take the grtIII, and is less hold sensitive, and the loading port will keep your fingers safer.  my sis owns the cfx, and she can't miss anything out to 35 yrds with a predator pellet(the gun can go farther, but she isn't a good enough shot yet...and i';m talking about free hand)...she likes the look of the 460...if she gets one anytime soon, i'll tell you how they compare...personally, i like break barrels...easier to load

The 460 is beautiful, if I had the extra money lying around it'd be the one I buy.  I like the idea of the fixed barrel.  Are they more accurate/consistent than break barrels?  I have no experience with higher end airguns, just my 2100 Classic.  It kills squirrels very well out to about 20 yards, but I'm looking to send them the message from farther away.  Give them less chance to see me and run:)

Well,, I have owned a 460 before,,,,, TWICE!!LOL!! I have not owned a CFX however,,I have heard MUCH good bout them . I dont care much for under levers,,,,, thats just me. (Im shure a TX would change my opinion!!LOL!!) Ya got a point about loading Dave,,, a very valid one. Kinda awkward:? Then again,,, I LOVE the 48/52/54? Hmmmm?? Tim M.

I know the "fixed brl." apeals to many as being more accurate:? Thats common sence?? I would have to agree:? That being said,,,, my Diana 34 Panther (Break Brl.) (CDT/Gene Curtis tuned) will stack pellets darn near as well as my 54!! Yes,, my 460 was one of the BEST looking guns I have EVER owned,,,, I did however have ALOT of problems with it. I think the design needs to be refined,,, just my opinion. If Ya like the 460,,,, fixed brl.,,,, I would certanly opt for a 48/52/54. Just my 2 cents,, but,, what do I know,,,, I have only owned SEVERAL of each::?? LOL!! TimM.

As Jeff said those varmints don't care as long as you got the right shooter for the job and you do your part. Speaking of the CFX, it will get the job done and then some. This guy here is proof of what's capable if the one behind the gun does his or her part. CFX.22 and a very dead bandit.:) Ed

Wow, shadow.  That pic would sell me on a CFX any day but I am not set on a fixed barrel or break barrel.  It always amazes me what an air rifle can do in the right hands.  Just looking for opinions before I buy and the info from everyone is much appreciated.  Thanks to all.

Tim,,,,The Rws 48 cost much less than the 460...I think the 48 would be the way to go,,,I never liked side levers until I picked-up a 48 & 54,,,they are realy nice guns,,,,as nice as the 460 is,,,the 350 has the same power,also less money.....just food for thought!

They both have a practical usage,,And that is the cool(expensive)part of air-gunning.Figuring how and what the benefits are of each....What they shine @ or don't....practicality to weight ratio...and so the list goes on.Are they too powerful?What will the neighbors think??Do they (the guns and pellet)get the job done without wearing you out??Maitenance...how easy is it to get parts....Every tool is a compromise.....What is the average distance of your ''EVERYDAY'' shot?The list goes on and on.The 460 has ''seal'' issues..Do you have accesiability(parts).Ah...yeah.No''1'' gun will get the job done.And thank goodness...We're men....and love OUR toy's.

Buy a gun that matches your needs.Work w/your gun/guns,and your performance needs.What is MOST important.Do the neighbors NOT need to know?Buy a HW-30..get her tuned and run ''light'' pellets tru her.Need to make the ''LONG SHOT''?Buy a RWS-34,SCOPE accordingly,tune correctly...and pick pellets that produce....Like H&N TROPHY'S,JSB EXACTS,SUPERDOMES.The CFX is a balls deep...deep penetration,vehicle.From what I've seen it loves 8.4 exacts....

While I really love my 52 my HW97 is the Queen Bee. Get your behind over to Colorado and shoot my HW 97 in .20 caliber and she will change your mind on under levers Timmy. BTW, Gene has my 350 and is doing a full tune along with a few other things. Good to see you back in action.

I didn't mean the 460 was $300, I meant it is $300 more expensive then a CFX.  The 460 is around $500 or so, is it not?
