loose barrel-Remington Genesis R177PG
« on: November 09, 2008, 11:31:30 AM »
I am using a friends Remington  Genesis R177PG  until my backordered  Gamo CFX arrives.
And after chasing the scope zero for 50 shots, I noticed the barrel is loose were it goes into the "breach" that hinges the barrel to the rifle.
The wobble is ever so slight, but just enough to cause shots to have very incnsistent patterns, and make it impossible to zero a scope.

Does anyone know how to tighten up the barrel??????????????????.

It is kind of a relief, as I did not think I was such a bad shot, and now that I have found the barrel wobbles, it explains the very iinconsistent shot pattern.
Once I laid the rifles weight, only on the barrel on a pillow, I stuck several pellets in the same hole at 35 yards.

I believe I explained incorrectly. The barrel is loose where it goes into the breach block.
You can turn the barrel very slightly, but it also wobbles.
Does it thread into the breach block,???

Sorry for not stating more clearly. Air gun terminaology is new to me

ah...i read that it was loose at the breech block, and my mind just automatically went to the hinge...well, i've never switched out the barrels on guns, but my guns have NEVER done that...this is gonna be something for one of the machinists to answer(or pro tuners)...sorry...this is out of my league.

Jerry If the barrel is loose where it goes into the barrel hole in breech block then it could be an easy fix or not..:) If the barrel is threaded into the breach block you can wrap barrel with good thick towel and put it in the vise. Then take a crescent wrench using another cloth to protect the breech block and try tightening the barrel. If it is a press in barrel then you need more equipment in order to fix the problem. Also on some model air rifles they use the privet pin which the front site sits on to lock a threaded barre in place. If you or your friend have removed the sites then it may be that the barrel is not locked down now. You can replace the site screw with the old one or find one that is the correct thread. I would recommend a allen head grub screw if this is the case. Good Luck Gene

Hi..I had a remington one of those pistol grip ones. And it had a loose barrel
I found the prob was the cross pin that the latch engages with it was not making contact
with the pin in the close postion. So I drilled the pin hole out to 7mm from the 1/4 "6.4mm" and used the top of the 7mm drill
to make a new pin to fit the hole.
Ps ...7mm is as big as you can go as the 7mm pin will be hard against the inner wall of the
pivet fork.

Well, I took off the fixed sights, and screwed down the barrel, and then tried to zero the scope.
Much better shooting now. Not exactly an easy trigger pull,   I am never sure when the trigger is going to fire.

Glad it is not my gun, and I did not pay for it.

I'll be glad when my CFX gets here, and I did order a CDT trigger last night.
It will probably arrive before the CFX does.

ok, let us know what you think of the cfx.  my sister has one in .22, and she absolutely LOVES it...she doesn't want to own any other gun...just that.
