Indoor Shooting and Lower Powered Airguns
« on: November 11, 2006, 02:57:24 AM »
After reading some of your posts about shooting indoors because of the weather outside, It come to my attention that a PCP could be an alternative...:) You can buy PCP's with variable power settings. Of course there are the air gun pistolas but some of us are not that good with hand guns... :)

I know with my FX Cyclone I could set it on a the lowest setting and shoot in my garage. Unlike a springer you can just turn down the power. The lowest setting on my FX is in the low 700fps , but I am sure there are lower powered PCP's out there that can be regulated down further for indoor shooting..:)

Just a thought...:)

Only flaw in that idea is $$$'s!  At the absolute minimum, from what I've been able to find, PCP rifle and hand pump is going to set you back about $700.  Too rich for my blood, especially when the IZH 61 is $90, and the Daisy 953 is even less.  A springer and a single stroke pump, no $250 pump required :-).  Now for you old retired guys that hide money from your wives, the PCP is the perfect choice ;-O.  And yes, I know I'm going to pay for THAT comment!  Later.

Sounds like a decidely unsafe way to acquire money, I KNOW how many guns you have, and that you'd have now problem hitting a target the size of my back side!  And I'm sure you'd use the new Cyclone or Sumatra on high!  Good morning, BTW.

Good morning to you also Dave. Hope your weather is good enough today to shoot some. I would go easy on ya and just use my 2240 co2 pistol. I probably would never even get close to your britches either.. hehe

Have a good one

Guess the good news is that it's warm enough indoors to keep using co2...maybe a bit loud for the wife (or the neighbors for those in doubles/townhouses).  Will put away the CO2 guns for the winter...they'll get shot once in a while, but mostly they'll hibernate through the colder months (not that it often gets all that cold down here).

For indoors, will look for accuracy, great trigger, low noise, and low power to keep backstop issues easy to deal with.

Certainly not going to spend the $ on a PCP for indoor use....do wonder how well the hot-nuts sporter versions take to being dialed down to the 500-600fps range (.177).

I'm lucky in that noise isn't really an issue for me.  My shop is 70 feet from my house, and even farther from the neighbors.  Firearms could be a problem, but not airguns.  For some reason, I just can't get excited about CO2.  Did get a taste of what the PCP guys are all hot about.  Had a friend and his son stop by the other night.  They're both heavily involved in the local 4H shooting program, and are trying to get me involved.  They brought along one of the clubs PCP match rifles.  I THINK it was a CZ, but not sure.  Either way, SWEET!  At 10 meters, even I could hit the bull shooting off hand.  For perspective, my 350 is 48" long and weighs somewhere around 10 pounds with scope and mount.  That match rifle was LITTLE, less than 5 pounds, and about the same length as the STOCK on my 350!  This has settled the question for me, I'm going to get the IZH 61.  Yes, it's still a springer, but size and weight are just about a match for that match rifle.  And it's supposed to be really accurate, have a great trigger, and is low powered.  And did I mention it's under $100?  I think I'll order a Beeman Sport Aperture sight to go with it, unless someone has a better suggestion.  And there I go, running off at the keyboard again.  Later!

Agree with yout whole post...they are the best indoor gun for the $.  May get hooked on it outdoors too...don't let the vel. rating put your off, I'll plink with match pistols at 25yards that start a pellet slower.
