HERE'S THE WHOLE TRUTH!!!!!!!!
« on: November 10, 2008, 01:57:36 PM »
That's right,,this is my first legal squirrel,,,,,,,,,there was some skill involved due to the quality or lack there-of for sighting the scope.....we all attempted in getting it right & no luck........we decided to go to Jeffs' sacred squirrel heaven & bring home the bacon.....

for those that don't know I was out with Jeff last week & was a jinx,,we got nothing,,,,,,,today we had some southern luck with Big J  at our side,,,,we proceeded into the promised land & within 5-10 mins. Jeff spots a tree rat,,,looks to me & says to take the shot,,,,

I thought he was crazy,,,,,,my scope was not sighted in & I didn't want to make a bad impression on my first attempt......I said take the shot,,,Jeff insisted to go for it.......I  shouldered the SS & lined that  23 1/2 lb tree rats neck in my cross-hairs with some compensating for the lack of an accurately sighted scope,,,,now spending a few days with J at my house, he schooled me on the neck-shot,,,,,,,

with my brilliant advisors looking on I gracefully applied enough pressure on the trigger to send the cp 121 yards through the neck of tha 43 1/2 lb tree rat.......

all I heard was thump & watched with J & Jeff as that 63 1/2 lb tree rat crashed to the forest floor,,,,,,,,next thing I asked was how do we get it,,,,,,Jeff say what do you mean we......the shooter tracks his kill.......the city was crying out at that point but I tracked it through the thickest of shrubs, scaled a mountain side & yes.........I DID BRING HOME THE BACON,,,,,,,,

ATLAST! !!!!!! Great shootin joe  and GREAT!!!pic's. Look's kinda chilly over there too but it keeps your hunting senses alert hehe and a 63 1/2lb nutter should feed you all and then some lol. "j" look's a little chilly himself but happy you all had a good hunt and a successful one at that. Now joe it's time to move up to the larger night varmint's which weigh up to 162 1/2lbs and they got sharp teeth lol. Thanks for sharing joe, great story. Ed

Congrats on your first kill Joe!  Which pellet did you use on that 63.5lb vermin at 100+yds?  The 200 or 300gr? :-)

Did Jeff give you guys any lessons on how to dress for a hunting trip in the woods?  hehe  Did he make you clean it too?  :)

Actually Harry,,,, J and I did make Joe skin and clean his kill,,,,, well,,, kinda :)

He started the job and we "helped" him a little, but he did just fine for a city boy  :)

As for the size and weight of that monster tree rat,,,,,, well,,, all I can say is that I had to carry that critter around in my vest game pouch and my back is killin me !!!!!!  I may have to go to the chiropractor tomorrow and have him do his magic and straighten out my spine  :)

As for Joes choice in hunting apparel,,,,,, that was entirely his own creation  :) but I'm workin on him,,, give me a little more time and I'll have him so camo'd out we won't even be able to take pics cause ya won't be able to see him......

Looks like you guys had a good hunt.  But are those "flames" on Joe's wool cap?  You boys need to get with Shadow and study up on your camo technique.  The really big squirrels probably saw you and scampered away before you got within 300 yards (lol).  Hey Joe, can an Akita be trained to retrieve?   And Joe, see if you and J can run down a source for a decent side wheel for the Nikko Stirling will ya?  Thanks for the pics.  But where is one of Jeff?  All I ever see of Jeff is his pick up truck and dead groundhogs.

I think the orange flames are technically called "Brooklyn Camo"  :)

As for me,,,,  I was the camera man,,,  was using my camera phone which is why the pics came out kinda fuzzy  :(

I just got this phone and surprisingly it actually does take pretty good pics but I guess I just didn't hole it steady enough....

Don't worry though,,,, we're gonna have Joe all camo'd up in no time   :)

Joe. a hearty congratulations on bagging your first legal squirrel. Looks like you had two seasoned veterans for technical support and guide services which is always a good thing. Don't stop here though. Squirrel hunting is IMO the very best training you could get to develope all the skills to become a hunter.I want to thank you for sharing this story.I really look forward to your future posts on your other hunts.Go as often as you can during the season and share it here with your GTA family.Kudo's to Jeff and J for taking the time to accompany you.Way to GO guys!

This has been a fun report guys.. great shootin joe..  The orange is required here in texas if you are hunting the national forest area's.. they call for at least 2 sq. ft..  geez we look like traffic  signs out there.

Public hunting land can get a bit dangerous here...
