A little HELP for a new QB-78 Owner, PLEASE !
« on: November 11, 2008, 05:13:42 AM »

Hey ALL,

My new (USED) QB's bolt opens smooth and fast, however, it seems like it takes 50 pounds pressure to close it. Is that normal ?

The air rifle shoots GREAT, and is accurate, but is this normal ???

Thanks in advance for any help.

That doesn't sound right to me Bill, my tuned one from Mike M. slides open and back smoothly without much effort. The Dragon Man will jump in and give you the skinny on this I'm sure but sure sound's unusual, could be wrong though.:) Ed

Might be nothing wrong...the design cocks on closing.  Opening the bolt does not compress the striker spring, closing the bolt does, so the extra effort is compressing the spring that powers the striker (which smacks the vlave stem when the trigger is pulled).

Could be (as it's a used gun) that it's had that tension increased....to smack the valve stem harder and  release more gas (one way to make it shoot faster).  One way to know is to shoot it and see how many shots it gets (mention the temperature as well to help us out a bit).

IF the cycle is smooth feeing (even though heavy) then can rule out burrs or some other friction cause.

Hold the trigger as if you are firing the rifle and work the bolt open and shut, if it moves smoothly then it's just a darn good spring for the striker............
