Follow up to 350, 1250, Condor...
« on: November 12, 2006, 09:17:56 AM »
This was generating enough interest that I decided to start a new thread, so no one had to wade through all the posts that got us to this point.  220, yes, I have both Kodiaks and Crow Magnums, but the light conditions were such that it shot 50 to 60 pellets just to get the 2 10 shot down range strings.  Plus my fingers lost all feeling by the time I was done.  Besides, my 350 doesn't seem to like Kodiaks that much, and from the data I got, Predators are at least as good.

For those that like all the details, I use a Chrony Beta.  Muzzle velocity was measured at 3 feet from the muzzle.  Down range was at 30 yards, I figured actual distance between Chrony sets as 85 feet.  I shot a 10 shot string at each range with the two different pellets.  The software used to generate the reports is called Ballistic Solutions, it's freeware, don't remember where I downloaded it.  I also have Chairgun2, but it was being obstinate, so I didn't use it.  I would have shot more strings, and maybe more pellet choices, but reference the above mentioned frozen fingers :-)!  I shot Predators, because the original question had to do with a hunting situation, and they seem to be the new top dog in hunting pellets.  The Superdomes were shot as a control, because they're readily available, and seem to work at least okay in almost everything.

Just as a side note, the velocity with both these pellets has increased about 10 fps since the gun was new.  I've shot somewhere between 500 and 1000 pellets through it to date.  Guess that's about it for now, the rest of the tale is in the atatched tables.

Great post Dave, enjoyed the data :)

I'm sure it will answer all of 220's questions.

Thanks, Jeff.  Hey, do the trajectory POI numbers look about right to you?  As I recall, you generally leave your scope alone and just hold over/under as needed.  One thing seems obvious, these Predators are a damned efficient pellet.  It's a little mind boggleing to me, at 50 yards this combo RETAINS as much energy as my CFX starts with on a good day.  I really need to do this with the CFX.  Later.

Numbers look about right to me.  You're right, the predator data is impressive.

Thanks for the data Dave.  It appears that the RWS 350 is strong enough to get a clean kill on a crow at longer ranges.  I really appreciate all of the help.  I look forward to getting the RWS 350 in the future.
Thanks,
Larry
