WILLIAMS FP-AG PEEP ON DISCOVERY
« on: November 23, 2008, 09:10:49 AM »
I mounted a peeper on the Discovery today . I know a few people have wanted to know if one would work . I had to remove the front blade and I used a 5/8 long # 6 Allen screw for the front pin . The stock blade was to short . I will try this for a while and see how it works . Williams make one front blade that might be high enough . It need to be about .550 - .600 above the small brake on the barrel if any one is thinking of doing this .Marvin

Pyramyd Air sells a Mendoza peeper that mount the same way and is pretty cheap at $30.  Very nicely made with micrometer click adjustments though a little tall.  Similar treatment of the front sight is necessary.  I had a (Redfield?) peep on my Discovery for a while, an old thing I bought at a gun show a milliion years ago, that mounts the same way.  Worked great.  Good idea if you like peeping.  Machinist types can shorten the Mendoza a bit with a simple cut in the base to clear a bulge in the arm that holds the peep.

PA has more peeping choices under accessories/lasers, red dots, iron sights, too.

Yes I know and wish I could have used the Mendoza sight but its the height issue that made me spend the money . No lath . Also I originally bought the sight for my Career but the Williams proved to be to tall for it . It had a .500 tall front sight already and needed another .500 to make this work . So off it came and onto the Discovery . Don't know what I am going to do with the Career yet . Its my summer rifle so I have all winter to think about it . Marvin

Is your Williams in the picture set down as low as it will go?  Looks like you could gain most of 1/8 inch.  It's very similar to my old Redfield that worked just right.

No not at the this time . I lowered the front sight a little so I will now be able to cut that distance down . If you look closely at the picture you will see a little rise on the right side of the base . That is the set screw that locks the rail slider down . The top portion of the sight will come down and rest on it . But the gap is magnified due to the photo . It is only up about a 1/4 of a inch .Marvin

MRM,

You should take a look at the FP-GR-TK sight.  You may find it to be a better fit.  The FP-GR mounts the same as the FP-AR but will adjust lower.
You may find it more compatible with the original Disco sight.

D R I phoned Williams today and there is a difference of .100 in the lowest setting of the two sights . I had to raise my front sight .160 and the rear is now about .050 above the lowest setting so I don't know that it would do the trick . Its to close to call and I am happy with what I have . I truly think the front sight would have to be raised at least the .060 to make the GR work . Also they have a WGRS -54  that looks like it would be considerably lower but it is not . I have it as well as the AR and it sets about .100 lower at its lowest setting . What Williams states the low setting on the GR is .350 and the AR is .450 . The WGRS is listed at the center of its height at .410 . Hope this info helps if any one else is thinking of using this product line. Marvin
