RWS 36... oil or not oil?
« on: November 24, 2008, 04:00:39 PM »
Hey Guys,
I've had my RWS 36 in the safe for at least 10 years without using it. I pulled it out today to do some plinking  and was going to put a couple drops of RWS oil in the recommended places, but noticed in the Library section of this site  "oiling spring air guns", Russ Best does not recommend using the oils that RWS says to use every 1000 shots.  I've got a heat tube in my safe to keep the moisture out and just figured that the seals might need a touch of oil. Should I oil or not??
Thanks,
Phil

If your seals are synthetic and not leather, and I suspect being a 36 they are, no oil in the compression chamber.  It will cause dieseling and you could break your spring.  That's a nice gun, BTW.  Want more info?  Try the DianaWerk Collective.  36's always welcome there.

Pivot points, ok to oil.

You could always put a couple of drops of good gun oil in the spring slot, that way it ends up behind the seal, and lubes but doesn't diesel.

Cool,

I have always oiled mine in the recommended places with the RWS oil. Even the compression tube. It has never dieseled. The proper oil is the key. I do all my guns the same way and have for many years. No problems. The correct amount is also the key. Good luck...
