Accuracy Concept- Stock Screws!
« on: November 25, 2008, 03:54:49 AM »
Some of you may know I'd been having some accuracy trouble with this HW90 I've got.  Couldn't figure it out for the life of me.  So last saturday I burned through the last of my Crow Mag's trying to get something of a decent group.  Had em down to within an inch but was still getting flyers up and right.  I've talked with Joe Cuz about this, Roger, and a few others and for a bit there I was thinking I'd blown the scope.  Having run out of Crow Mag's I'm down to Predator Polymag's right now.  When I finished the Crow Mag tin I brought that 90 in the house and figured- what the hell- and grabbed a flathead screw-driver and went to work on the stock screws.  The left screw only needed a quarter of a turn- the right screw needed a little under three quarters of a turn.

Hadn't fired er' until this morning with the Polymag's...   I think my accuracy problem has been solved!  Funny how the most simple fundamentals can make all the difference in the world.  I think I like this gun again!  She hits HARD!  Gonna have to go at it again tomorrow morning(because I work until dark) and see if she stays consistent.

Just thought I'd share...

Matt

Try putting thread lock on your screws.

hey Matt I was doing the same thing after reading about it on here somewhere, using a torque wrench with a driver bit to measure each screw and shot a 5 shot group then adjust and shot another and record each torque setting for each group and figure out which setting works best it worked real well on my quest had it shooting one holers right befor the spring broke.the strange thing is that my gun liked the right side tighter than the left so I think you realy got to play around with  all of them to figure out which works best but it does make a big difference in how the gun groups and after I get a new spring I know that I can set it again with out to much work.

Hey Gary, you're Bedford?  That's outside of Fort Worth, right?  I'm about 2 hours up the 20 west from you!  We oughta hang-out and shoot some time...   always looking for new places to explore!

I'll toy-around with the stock screws and grouping...   never would've even thought of that.  Thanks for the tip!   :p
