Fast Deer Bags a Nutter
« on: November 25, 2008, 06:33:53 AM »
I haven't been able to go hunting lately due to my lower back acting up again combined with being sick with some kind of sinus infection but I did get in a real quick, rainy backyard hunt a little while ago.

I thinned out the tree rat population quite a bit recently due to their destructive behavior on my lawn and planting beds, but I did leave a couple squirrels to breed, besides,,, the ones I left have been behaving and have left my lawns and buried bulbs alone so our truce has been holding.

It's a rainy  yucky day today so I'm just staying warm inside nursing my aching back.  As I hobbled past the rear sliding glass door I saw one of the usual tree rats hanging out on the ground near my feeders, but he's one of the "good ones" so it's ok with me.  What was not OK was a large tree rat hanging off my feeders gobbling up everything inside.  This new squirrel must've come in  from another yard because I've never seen him before.  Well,,, had to do something about his behavior and I certainly don't need him teaching the "good" rats any bad habits.

I hobbled my way down into the basement and grabbed the home tuned .177 Fast Deer that was layed out just for this occassion.  Locked and loaded with a GAMO Master Point I slowly made my way into the back yard.  Got to the corner of the house, peeked around and was immediately spotted by the big new comer.  He raced up the oak tree and headed for the top.  He got to the top and then raced out onto a long branch that they use as an elevated roadway to another large oak tree.  I followed him through the scope and waited for him to pause so I could get a shot.  Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, he came to a stop as he prepared to leap to another branch.  The crosshairs were on his head and I pulled the trigger.  The GAMO Master Point found it's mark and the tree rat fell off the branch and hit the ground with a loud thump.  Mission accomplished.    :)

Even though it was raining I just had to take a couple of pics for the good old GTA Hunting Gate :)

Thanks guys,,,, I did the smart thing and went to the doctor this morning.  They can't do much for my back, that's just gonna take some time for the "flare up" to subside.  After all these years with the back problems I've kinda gotten used to this pattern,  I always console myself by making myself realize it could be worse,,, which is definitely could !!  As for the infection,,,, they started me on antibiotics which hopefully will kick in soon.

As for naming the nutters,,,,, no names yet but I can definitely recognize them when I see them.  One of em built a nest inside one of  my birdhouses,,,,after chewing out the opening of course  :)  I spent a couple of hours one Saturday watching him work on his new home.   There weren't any birds using it so I didn't care.....

Hope taking that harvest helped your back a little buddy.:) As they say nothing outruns a Deer...........Fast Deer. ;) Great shot and pic's buddy, like the looks of that Deer. You must be getting some of that weather that we had here, all snow now.:) I was planing to get out this morning with the fresh three inches of snow on the ground , my snow camo suite was out and I really wanted to try the TAC1 but to much white so the Powerline was ready. But worked called and when work calls you get going. Tomorrow I WILL BE OUT! before daylight and settle into a blind for a morning raid on em. Ed
I airgun hunt therefore I am... };)  {SHADOWS Tunes & Camo}  airguncamo@yahoo.com

Thanks Ed & Harry....

Harry, with the GAMO Master Points I'm getting an average of 650 FPS.    That little Fast Deer is a great little shooter,,, I just wish I had bought a few more of em when they were sellin em off :(

Even when you`re sick....you`re still whacking those hungry nutters.  Good for you.  I had 4 chances at some crows last week....a wet cold very windy week.....distance were 25 to 40 meters...give or take a few....  Missed them all due to the wind and elevation shots  :o(
