QB78 deluxe Bulk Fill Questions
« on: November 25, 2008, 09:16:21 PM »
Hello, Im currently deciding whether to get a QB78deluxe or a QB79. I've read through most of the previous post's but can someone tell me whether it is ok to leave the QB78 deluxe pressurized using the Bulk fill method, or should you empty it after each session?

Is the deluxe QB78 actually superior to the normal QB78 aswell. I know its got brass bolt and trigger e.t.c, but is it actually more acurate or better machined?

Also, just want to sell hello to everyone, i'm from the UK.

The 78D is a bit nicer finished that the standard 78...but even the standard 78 has gotten a lot better in the last year (at least here in the US).  The 78D is worth the extra $ for the fuller sized stock and better blue.

Many of use leave the guns charged when we expect to shoot again in a few days. Some keep them fully charged all the time.  Personally, I'll leave it charged and ready to shoot when I expect to shoot again the next day.

For long storage will shoot it down to where it's about time to refill, then store it with that low charge.

Many UK shooters seem resistant to bulk filling co2.  Am told co2 is not as commonly available there as it is here.  But with both the bulk fill cap and the standard piercing cap, should be able to make use of either cartridges or tanks, which could be a real advanatge.

To complicate your choice a bit, there are 12gr. adapters that would allow using the 12gr. cartridges on a Qb79 "tanker".  Paintball sites have them here for about $13-$18 for the single cartridge model. Co2 is pretty common here, but even so, will often use a 12gr. to do some trigger adjusting, sight adjusting, or just when I want to shoot a dozen times.

At the present time the exterior fit and finish of the QB78 Deluxe is superior to that of the QB79 - at least in US market product. And - as Ribbonstone says - the QB78 Deluxe wood is better. But we've tested many hundreds of QB78 variants of all types for Archer Airguns Gold Service and I can honestly say that there's no significant difference in either muzzle velocity or accuracy between these two models. Of course, there will be differences between individual examples of each model; but overall they're about the same.

Although the QB78 Deluxe and the QB79 (or, I guess in England the SMK78 and 79) are the same price, is that true if you factor-in the price of the CO2 tank that you will need to have with the QB79? At least in the US, this is an additional cost item that would make the QB79 more expensive.

May I add an opinion, too? Personally, I prefer the QB78 Deluxe to the QB79 because the balance of the gun is better if you use a 9oz tank on the QB79. The 9oz tank makes the QB79 very muzzle heavy (in my opinion), although this is much less pronounced if you use 88g Airsource tanks (with an adapter) or a slimline tank such as the Daisy Avanti tank that we sell. Although these smaller tanks improve the balance of the QB79, I still prefer the QB78 Deluxe as the wood forend is longer and this gives me a better hold on the gun - I do have long arms, however. For me, this alone makes the difference for a tall shooter.

Hope this helps!

I have QB 79 and I really love it. But I love the look of QB78D and I Think I will soon buy it too. It is just my personal opinion but I feel like for me QB 79 is money saver in the long run if you shoot a lot. It's true that you have to buy additional paintball tank for it but then it takes only couple dollars to refill it and from those tanks you can have many shots. 88gr. tanks from my view point is kind of expensive so I use 3.5oz tank it fits perfectly and cost only $1 to refill it at my local paintball store. But I think I want to buy QB78 for short shoots.
Hope it helps.

Just went out and bought a QB78 deluxe! :)

First impressions are that it has a nice stock, but i might re-finish it.

I'm going to attempt to tune it myself i think, here in the UK we have a Gunsmith called Terry Robb who sells the tuning kit's for the QB's, so i will either get one of them or i will send it off to Ian Lamb. Also the Terry Robb tuning kit's come with a DVD on how to do it, so if i do go down that route i will upload the DVD onto a server for all to see.

Also, i undid the screw for the rear sight and the spring jumped out, so i'm just trying to figure out for you get it back in. It has a bit that goes through the sights base and top. Does anyone know if this pushes through so that you can seperate the two pieces.

Finally, How easy are these guns to take apart and reassemble?

cheers, matt

You may want to try polishing the stock with plastic polish or automotive paint polish. I did mine and it's gorgeous.

Good choice...it's the best looking/best finished of the QB's.

Think refinsihing isn't needed, at least not until you've used the gun for a bit and gotten a few good knocks/dings. Seems to be a "curse" on new guns that attrats a little damage early on (it's like a new car in that respect)...soon as it gets that first "ding", can relax a little bit.
