Ultimate body shot on squirrel!

Well yesterday I was at my grandparents house and got to do some hunting.  The first 2 squirrels I saw disappeared in a pecan tree and I never saw them again.  Later, I walked to the same pecan tree and 1 squirrel ran up it.  I followed him and he went to the very top, BIG MISTAKE.  He got to the very top of a limb and just froze there so I wouldn't see him, but it was too late.  I raised my AF Condor and looked through the scope.  His head was behind a branch, so no head shot.  Decided to go risky and went for a body shot.  Pulled the trigger, squirrel dropped out of the tree and was Dead On Impact.  Now, here is the amazing part, at least to me.  Due to the way he was positioned, the Kodiak entered near his hind legs, traveled the length of his body, exited his head and kept going.  Now that is amazing power, for a pellet to go all the way through a squirrel, exit the head and keep on going.

Good shot Larry.  I have made a couple of shots like that with my Condor using Kodiaks.  As long as you calculate the path of the pellet and know it's going to travel through vitals or towards the head, they are safe to make with a powerfull PCP.

Thanks!  I was aiming for the vitals but didn't expect this!  It was amazing to me because I had never seen an air rifle do that, really shows how much power they have as that was about 6 inches of flesh and bone the bullet traveled through.  And my gun was at 1800psi and less than half power too.

Yep, they are very nice squirrel hunting guns, especially with the shroud.  You can't hear my gun from 50 feet away, yet 40fpe on level 6.  They don't stand a chance!  At my grandparents, it is the ultimate squirrel hunting place as it is out in the country and there are peacan and oak trees everywhere, perfect for squirrels.

Yep, those AF Condors are very powerful....great accurate upward shot on that nutter.

Lol Jeff, how are you liking your talon?  Have you ever had a similar shot with a springer or pcp?  I was shooting close to vertical so it was perfect for it to travel up the length of his body, just wasn't expecting it to exit the other side like that.  Was a decent size squirrel, not large but not small either.  The pcp madness has begun Jeff ;)

I've been wondering about this very thing...which power levels relate to my experience with CCI long mini caps. As they come, they're 29 gr round nose at about 800...but perform poorly on the body shots. So I began filing the nose off to get about an .18 cal meplat...voila...best body shot was nearly identical to yours Jeff. A large female grey was stretched out full length, facing away and on a limb angled upwards about 30 degrees. I was looking straight up the exhaust pipe at 25 yds. The shot entered the left ham and exited just above the right eyebrow...sounded just like popping a paper bag! I don't think she had time to  wake up at all. Is there a springer out there that comes close to that Talon?

My name isn't Jeff, though, don't know if your referring to me or to longislandhunter?  My Gamo Hunter 220 has a measured 16fpe of energy, it doesn't even come close.  If I don't hit a squirrel in the head with my gamo, he will run off and suffer.  so only head shots with my gamo.  However, with my condor, I can shot almost any body shot and cleanly kill the squirrel pretty quickly.

Hey Jeff, I used 21gr. heavy kodiaks, and use the power wheel at 6.  My PSI was low at 1800psi when I shot the squirrel, so the pellet was probably traveling around 850-900fps because on a full fill it shoots 950-1,000fps at PW 6.  Those kodiaks are deadly!  Now to test the predators, and an MCM on a squirrel.  I can tell you, an MCM  at 1200fps, even though it isn't very accurate, will do tons of damage.  I shot a mocking bird once, the MCM cut him into 3 seperate portions.  They are like a spinning knife blade IMO.  Anything hit with them it usually destroyed.  Shot a small sparrow (the bad kind) and there was only 2 feet, a few feathers, and a beak left, nothing else.  They are the ultimate pellet if you want to WOW someone.
